NGD - E8D Received

Hey everyone,

I finally opened up my E8D last night.  I attached some photos that my wife took, but they aren't the best quality.  The guitar looks much prettier in person.  I'm really happy with this guitar!  I bought this thing used for $795 from Dave's Guitar Shop, and it's a 2020 model.  I figured there may be some cosmetic issues considering how inexpensive it was, but it looks like a brand new guitar.  Also, this guitar was packed excellently.  They even wrapped up the truss rod tool lol.  The guitar was just very carefully packaged, and I appreciate that.

The action on this guitar is perfect for me, and it's super playable.  I read from some other posters in this forum and other forums that the neck is really thick/fat.  But, that isn't my experience.  I feel like the neck is actually more on the thin side which I really like.  It's a really fast neck.  I also have an Eastman E6OM that is super comfortable to play considering it's smaller.  So, when I bought this E8D I worried it may be uncomfortable to play since it's a different body shape and bigger, but it's very comfortable to play!  I honestly can't tell a huge difference between holding this and my E6OM.

I'm not sure which strings are on it, but I like them quite a bit.  I have a set of GHS strings, Martin SP's, and another set of bluegrass strings that I'll try next probably.

Tone-wise, this thing just sings!  It has wonderful overtones that I don't really get from my E60M.  The E6OM is a great guitar, but I definitely prefer the voice of this E8D.  The E6OM sounds great, but it does lack some on the low end.  Maybe I just prefer the dread sound since it has more low end and a fuller sound, or maybe I just like rosewood more than hog.  Or maybe it's both.  It seems very balanced and doesn't seem to be too scooped.  The low end is great, mids seem good, and treble side is very crisp and bell like.  This guitar seems to be suited for fingerstyle as much as strumming and flat-picking.  The E6OM is a great fingerstyle guitar, but this E8D is just as good IMO.  I love my E6OM, but I REALLY love this E8D.

Overall, I couldn't be happier with this guitar.  It sounds great!  I don't know how Dave's Guitar Shop can sell a basically brand new E8D for $795, but it's a heck of a deal.  I know that they have a great selection of Eastman's and I think they just got in another E8D if anyone is interested.  They also have an E6D for like $695, and an E8OM for $795.

If anyone wants to check them out, here is their website:

  24 Hour Acclimate?
Posted by: SasquatchLife - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (21)

Hey there,

My E8D delivered today, and it's been in transit in temperatures of about 50 to 80 degrees. Do I really need to give it 24 hours to acclimate before opening? I'm not sure if the case is in a box, and my wife is about to pick it up. But, considering how mild it's been, I don't know if I should wait the full 24 hours. I will though if you guys think it's best. I did wait 24 hours on my E6OM back in April.

Thoughts?

Tonerite - Worth it or gimmick?
Posted by: SasquatchLife - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (16)

Hey everybody,

Who here uses a tonerite on their guitars? I've read conflicting info from other forums. Some people swear to them, and others say it doesn't help at all and can even hurt the tone of a guitar. What do you guys think? Is it worth the money? Does it achieve something similar as A TC baked top or is it different?

I have an essentially brand new E6OM, and just bought a used 2020 E8D. I love the tone of my E6OM already, but even more tone isn't a bad thing!

Thanks a bunch

Photo Show me your acoustic pedal board
Posted by: Elt Man - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (1)

Hi all

Anyone on here use acoustic fx? I have recently set up a small acoustic pedalboard, incorporating Radial Deluxe PZ preamp with EQ and clean boost, a TC HOF reverb, and a Neo Clone chorus. Also have a Digitech stomp tuner, which I may sell as its huge and there are better tuners out there. See attached pic.

Whats on your board?

Eastman prices go UP on last year's model???
Posted by: goodry - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (10)

I called a company trying to get a price on a E20D-TC. They quoted me a price and I told them ok, I'll wait until next year when used prices fall a bit.

He said because of the low volume Eastman puts out, he said only 300 guitars a year.. similar in output to Collings, that the price of an E20D-TC will actually go up.

He then we quoted me a price $500 below current retail of the 2020 E8D for my 2019.

Anybody have any insight into this?

I would think his opinion would have been negated by his offer... I can't imagine a shop needs to make $500 margin on a guitar since retail for the new E8D is $1200 and he offered me $700 for my 2019 E8D. If his logic about raising prices being correct, I'd think his offer would have been above $1200.

  NGD - E8D

Well, I did it. I bought a used E8D (2020 Model) from Dave's Guitar Shop for $795. I recently did a prepay on an Alvarez MD60BG, but decided to cancel and get this Eastman. I already have a hog guitar with my E6OM, and decided I needed a rosewood guitar since the Alvarez is hog too. I loved how the Alvarez neck feels, but figure if I don't like the E8D then I can probably trade it in for the MD60BG since it's $600 brand new.

I have no idea if the Eastman comes with their warranty since it's a used model, but this was too good of a deal to pass up. Hopefully that's not an issue down the road.

I can't wait to get this thing! This is now my 2nd Eastman purchase since April. God bless my wife.

Here's the one I bought: https://davesguitar.com/products/eastman/e8d-20/

Jordan

  Breedlove Concerto Model
Posted by: SasquatchLife - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - Replies (7)

Does anybody have experience with the Breedlove Concerto models? Has torrified solid spruce top, and solid myrtlewood back and sides.

The Concerto body is Breedlove's take on a Dreadnought. But, they claim it is more comfortable, balanced, and has better note definition. I think the Myrtlewood looks great too. Here is one I'm looking at.
