Hello everyone, I got a new Gibson Southern Jumbo 1942 Banner (Murphy lab) a few days ago and I was wondering if anyone has had the chance to compare this model to the newer Eastman E25SS/V?

The Eastman is obviously a homage to the original rosewood Southern Jumbo and has the short scale, wider nut and inlays all inspired by the SJ. In a video from the fellowship of acoustics there is a short demo of the Eastman E25SS/V and I’m very impressed with both its aged looks and sound. In their video at least it appeared to have a vintage edge to the tone which I found very appealing (is it just the mic used?) and different to the Eastman guitars I have owned and played in the past. I would be very interested if anyone has compared these two guitars and thoughts on the tone of the E25SS/V in general. I’m thinking of selling all my guitars except for my mahogany and rosewood J-45 and SJ and adding similar guitars such as the Eastman (I already have a sigma SJ) as I love the comfort and tone of a slope shoulder.

I’m new to the forum, I recently joined because I have a 2022 E20D-MR-TC on the way!

I had a couple of questions, first: what’s the bracing position of the X brace? I’ve been told it’s 1” from the soundhole, 1.75” from the soundhole or 1.5”. Has anyone measured theirs post-bourgeois partnership?
2nd for those of you that have owned your guitar for a number of years how has it matured and aged over the years? I already owned a 1949 Martin D-18. But I’d like to keep that one in its case and under the bed.

I eat my words. I’ve expressed my affinity for the nitro finishes on the older Eastmans, and with a sample size of just one, I formed a negative opinion of the TruTone finish. 

Well, I’ve gone ahead and bought a pretty nice E10ss-TC that I knew would be mine as soon as I played it. And yes it has a TruTone finish.

For what it’s worth, while it looks like an all star J45, it sounds like it belongs more in the Martin family. And one day I’ll describe the tone as “in the Eastman family”. I have to work my way up to that.

I find this song enigmatic - mysterious and rather hypnotic.To me it is primarily about infidelty and its consequences, where the forest is invoked as a realm beyond the pale of civilisation and social norms - a trope with an ancient lineage in European folklore. The song has been traced back as far as the Southern Appalachians of the 1870s, and as a footnote Dolly recalls singing this song with her family growing up in Eastern Tennessee.

Hi there, i have been chasing a fatter sound from my E40-om-tc and swapped the original bone saddle for a tusq one. That boosted the highs making them sparkling but the lows (while being very balanced) didnt sound as good as with bone.
I bought a camel bone saddle and just installed it, my opinion is that i gives a nice balance, giving without any doubt more weight to the lows than tusq and the high sounding very well.
I am not sure if the difference in price is justified or not. So far i could say yes, it sounds different, it will take me a few days to give you more detailed opinion.

I follow several lutherie channels on Youtube. Perhaps my favorite is the one from the Canadian luthier Ted Woodford ("twoodfrd"). Highly recommended. Few days ago he posted a video removing an under-saddle pickup (L.R. Baggs Anthem) from a Martin D15M  including a small before and after sound test:

This is an idea that's been on my mind for a while regarding my Eastman AC622CE Koa. I don't really need that pickup. What do you think is the influence on the guitar's tone of installing a soft piezo/under-saddle pickup like the L.R. Baggs VTC that my guitar has? Has anyone ever removed a piezo from their guitar? Or inversally, have you noticed any change in the guitar's tone after installing a piezo? Many thanks.

Hello, I'm a newby in guitar electronics. i need to replace volume and tone potentiometer on my Eastman T386.

Can someone describe complete info for the pot i need. It's 500K and it has a split shaft with 18 teeth.
Somehowe on websites it's not clear to me to choose  the right one.

I have an Eastman E1D, but I've been thinking of getting a Martin D18, for the martin tone and heritage. For those who own both Martin and Eastman, what is your opinion on the martin tone? Was it worth paying that much more money for that Martin tone and heritage? Thanks!

FYI, Evan from Martin just confirmed that the current D18 are still made with Honduran mahogany Swietenia macrophylla back and sides, not the African mahogany that Eastman use for the E6s and E10s.
