I had a very nice two hours at a newer upscale guitar shop in my area. It is called Stevie's Guitars with a website of http://www.guitars.net. Specific to acoustics - https://www.guitars.net/collections/acoustics
So the reason for the visit, besides having 3 hours to kill, was they have a E20D-LSH-TC torrefied Adirondack/rosewood, a Bourgeois Touchstone Vintage D Sitka/rosewood as well as a Touchstone Signature D torrefied Sitka/Madagascar rosewood, plus many many others. I started on the two Bourgeois' and the LSH. IMHO the LSH smoked the other two and I don't feel it was that close. Maybe it is the enlarged sound hole or the torrefied Adirondack top but it has the bass, volume, sparkling trebles, sustain, projection - everything you would want in a dread. The other two weren't bad but slightly subdued in comparison. I just felt that the LSH was a step above. And to boot it was $800 cheaper than the standard Touchstone and $1500 less than the Signature. It truly is making me re-think my aversion to dreads.
I also was able to compare it against a Santa Cruz Tony Rice model, a Boucher BG-52-BM, as well as new Martin HD-28 and D-28. Unless you are specifically looking for the Martin tone, the Eastman holds its own and is over $1000 less expensive. The Eastman was heavier and the neck fuller than the Martins. Concerning a comparison to the Santa Cruz or Boucher - no, not even close. But then again that is not a fair comparison. Both of these models are nudging $8,000. They are just wonderful instruments but I could never justify the price. I am sure others with unlimited budgets or extensive talent could bring out the best in the Santa Cruz and Boucher to justify that kind of price tag.
If anyone is in the market, pic below and here is a link to the Eastman - https://www.guitars.net/products/e20d-ls...c863&_ss=c Ask for Nick - very helpful and friendly. Great place to visit and shop. One other guitar that really caught my ear was a Boucher HG-41-V - OM sized, torrefied Adirondack/Brazilian mahogany with a soft V neck. Just a sweet smaller body guitar. Light weight and comfortable neck if you like soft V shapes. It is a used model in excellent conditon.
