NGD PCH3-OM Koa
Posted by: Airborne - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (10)

Just received my new guitar from Sun Valley by Fedex and only one day later than originally stated! And, more importantly, with no damage!

I must say I was a bit confused when it arrived in a Blueridge box and immediately thought I had just received a wrong order!

My initial reaction to this guitar is that it is beautiful and well made with no obvious flaws. The photos posted do not do this guitar justice. Another confusing thing is the certificate of authenticity states the model as PCH-3-D-KOA, when it is in fact an OM. The label inside of the guitar is correct.

According to Sun Valley website, there were only 20 of these made, so, I don’t suspect I’ll run in to another one of these in the neighborhood!

The guitar sounds differently from my 40 OM obviously, but it has its own pleasant voice which I like. This will be my RV/knock around guitar. I wanted a guitar that had similar specs to my 40 so I wasn’t constantly adapting to different nut widths and neck radii, et., and this fits the bill.

Overall, I very, very happy with this guitar and to think it was less than 4 bills delivered, is amazing!

  Good source for Dreadnought saddle
Posted by: Rad - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (5)

The saddle in my E20D-TC chipped just on the outside of the Low E string. The guitar is still playable but the low E moved over into the chip and is now closer to the fingerboard edge.

How it chipped I don’t know, must have been during a recent string change and I did  not notice.

I know I can just check all the typical on line sites but I was wondering if anyone  had  a source they liked for a compensated bone saddle of the proper Length, width and 12” radius?

Of course I will  have to finish  fit it and set the height.

Thanks

Oh ya, because threads are better with pictures, here is a pic of absolutely no relevance to this thread. Me kayaking one day A few miles from home, visited by a cute little guy on a dead calm day.

Thumbs Up Eastman vs. three others -- surprised me!

I'm new to the Eastman brand but have a 30-year-old Martin D2832 Shenandoah which I knew was going to need big repairs. I had them done but then got the itch to pick up a newer instrument and rededicate myself to playing. The good people at Soundpure set me up with a fun afternoon comparing a new Eastman AC522CE with a Taylor 710CE short-scale (2005), a Martin GPC28E (2016), and a Taylor 614CE (2017). I fully expected to like the bright sound of one of the Taylors best, and they did sound good -- all three did, of course. But the Eastman was much richer to my amateur ear, just as playable, and the least expensive. It turned out to be an easy decision and that surprised me, which is why I'm posting this. My old Martin still sounds good and it really booms out chords (I'm really just a strummer, not so good at fingerpicking still), but the Eastman sounds rich and beautiful and melodious and has a surprising amount of power to it. It's been a month now and I'm delighted that I got the old one repaired (major neck work) but even more delighted that I got the new one. For anyone who's wondering about whether Eastman belongs in that particular playing field, my answer was a clear yes. And no, I'm not getting paid to say this.

  Best fingerstyle performance ever

OK... maybe my title is a bit dramatic... but I have watched this performance so many times and cannot believe my eyes and ears... so incredible.  Perfect technique, percussion and arrangement.  And, he's only 17 years old!

And yes... another Earl Klugh performance Smile  Wildfield, I know you'll like this one.

  Koa/Cocobolo laminates

What difference if any, between the two laminates for back and sides? Or, is it strictly visual?

Thanks for any opinions.

  NGD E10 OM Ltd
Posted by: Learning - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (24)

Picked up a 6 year old E10 OM Ltd on the weekend. She was a case queen and in need of a set up. Other then 3 finish cracks on one side of heel she is in perfect condition.
I tweaked the truss rod, lower the saddle and a new set of strings. Much better. Will play for awhile and let her get adjusted to her new home before looking at the set up again.
She was 4 hours away, one way, but worth the trip. I was looking for an 00 but this OM will hopefully give me reasons to stop looking.
I love the sound and clarity of the notes. I play only fingerstyle and the mahogany just sounds right. Looking forward to how the Adi top matures.
Pictures are before set up, took 2 mm off saddle and still lots left.

Forgot the back picture.
Here she is with her partner. A Seagull Maritime Folk, Sika/Mahogany. The Seagull has a wonderful sound and tone. They are going to make a great team.
Cheers
