  T386
Posted by: lewcanoe - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (8)

I recently got a T386 in red as a birthday gift to myself. What a beautiful guitar this is. Some months back I sold my 20 year old Gibson ES-335. A very well made and legendary guitar but for some reason I just couldn't get on with it. Sort of regretted it a little but now I have this T386 I can't put it down. Now I don't like to make comparisons between guitar manufacturers or price points but if I had to choose between the Gibson and the T386, I'd choose the 386 purely for the joy of playing it. Just one question - my guitar came with 010 gauge strings and they feel a little light. I've read elsewhere that some people use 011 gauge on these guitars. On other guitars I use Elixir coated strings 010 gauge which do feel a little heavier. At the moment I'm 100% happy with this guitar but would welcome other owners opinions. Thanks in advance.

Eastman fan searching for older AC808 or AC812, most interested in four digit serial number models.

Under the Hood on the E1OM
Posted by: Treenewt - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (15)

Yesterday I decided to change the strings on my E1OM (Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze...which sound pretty dang good, FWIW).  While they were off, I figured I'd try my Bertram skills and see what the bracing looked like.  My camera prowess isn't on his level, but I did find a couple interesting things:

Just inside the sound hole, I noticed what appears to be mold:

The bridge plate appears to be sapele/mahogay as opposed to the usual maple.  Not too concerned about this, as its a hardwood, but I figure it's another way they can cut some cost on this model.  The interior isn't quite as clean as what we're used to seeing, but again that doesn’t concern me too much. [Image: rsjp2Pg.jpg]I'm not too concerned about either, the guitar sounds amazing...but I did figure it was curious.  Anyone else see anything like this on their Easties?

Hey guys I just wanted to get the word out that I own a small store in northern Illinois and carry a respectable stock of new Eastmans. I think they're great guitars especially for the money. If you're in the Chicago or southern Wisconsin area give us a call or stop by. We also do internet sales on Reverb.com

Check our Reverb page for our stock. We just got a shipment in today so we have more that aren't listed yet.

Thanks

  My 2012 Eastman E20D - wow
Posted by: mitcher16 - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (2)

Hi folks, hope everyone is doing well.

So I just wanted to mention a few things about my custom lefty E20D that I purchased in 2012. Unfortunately due to 2 small kids, a divorce, other acoustics and regular life I have not spent many hours with my Eastman.
What I did know was what an amazing instrument I had on my hands and nothing I played in a store (which is not many due to being a lefty) compared to my E20D, even a few high end Martins such as a D-28.

Now that life has settled down and I am back into a good normal routine, I have been playing a lot of guitar and really working on my vocals. I performed my first open mic last month (with a cheap fender) and am playing at a different one on December 18th, with my Eastman for the first time. I installed a L.R. Baggs Lyric and to my ears it sounds really good with beautiful deep lows and clear highs through my Fishman amp.

As a divorce gift to myself a couple of years ago, I purchased what I thought would be my forever guitar. I found a lefty Gibson J-45 Custom Shop used that was in perfect condition. It was very expensive but I thought what the heck, you live once, so I purchased it. I said to myself that if it was no better than my E20D than I was going to return it. A week later I received it, opened the case and it was so beautiful. I gave it some time before I played it but once I did, it sounded great but really, no better at all than my E20D. Of course it sounded different but for me it just confirmed the fact that my Eastman was one hell of an amazing guitar so I returned the Gibson.

I know I am rambling on, so my point is that the more I play my E20D the more amazing it is. I play with it standing up and singing and it is just so awesome. I am quite a hard strummer at times and it just rocks, that's really all there is to it. My girlfriend sits there at times and says, wow, that guitar is the best I have ever heard.
It is now 6 years old and just seems to be getting better.

It looks fantastic and sounds even better so I am very excited to use it during my next open mic because I want people to hear this thing, and hopefully it may mask some of my vocals!! haha...
Anyways, just wanted to share some observations and how lucky I feel to own that instrument.

Take care everyone and happy holidays!!!
