String choice
Posted by: aant - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (40)

What strings do you guys favor?
I use Martin strings lately (SP Lifespan MSP7200 and M150), because the local shops mainly sell this brand, but I'm not convinced. To my ears they lack something and die out (as in loose their sonic sparkle) fairly quickly.
My guitar is a AC522, I'd appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

Does anyone know for sure why Eastman do not produce more torrefied guitars? There is definitely a demand for them - although how big a demand I don't know. This question might have been answered, if so - apologies.

  Pick Guard Choice
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (8)

I've maybe mentioned this before once or twice, but I would like to canvass opinion. Is anyone other than me indignant at Eastman's policy of fitting a pickguard to all of their guitars before being despatched to the customer? I object to this because :-

1) I personally do not like having a pickguard on my guitar. If I wanted one, I would fit one.

2) If I wanted to fit one. I would like the freedom to choose which one - a very personal choice.

Eastman could supply a pickguard with the guitar but leave it loose in the case. If fragile finishes were damaged by virtue of no pickguard being fitted, then Eastman could fairly say it was our choice. What do you think?

"Born again, with all solid wood"
Posted by: Rens - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (1)

...is something most of us have probably seen on the main website by now. Further down they add "an all solid wood standard for Flattops". I really what exactly this means, aren't they still selling a lot of laminated guitars? Is it just a couple of types that were changed? When you buy a new one from older stock are you getting lesser quality?
Thanks!

  E8D and Martin 000-18
Posted by: TomC - Forum: For Sale / Trade and Online Deals - Replies (4)

I recently hooked up with a group of guys playing a weekly jam. With winter coming I need something a little more impervious to weather that could handle going from a warm house to a cold car to a warm practice room back to the cold car and return to the warm house. . I have decided to add a carbon fiber guitar - Journey, Rainsong or ?? Unfortunately I have been informed that the collection can change but not the over-all headcount. I am offering up a 2017 E8D with JJB (K&K) pick-up and John Pearse mini rosewood armrest as well as a 2016 Martin 000-18 with same pick-up and John Pearse slimline ebony armrest. Pricing is $750 and $1700 respectively. Both guitars are in very good to excellent condition. There is one small ding on the bass side of the lower bout on the E8D. I thought I would post it here before other venues. I have Eastman double boxes for shipping. I will absorb Paypal Friends and Family Fees. Shipping to be billed at cost. Send me a message with your contact information and any questions. Pictures available upon request.

Wink E1D: Eastman's Done It Again!
Posted by: campacj - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (7)

I recently purchased an E1D and it's beautiful, plays easily, projects very well, and sounds great! If you check out the specs at their website, you'll find it is an amazing value. I have come to prefer sapele over mahogany for the back and sides of my guitars. To my ear it sounds much the same but with slightly more bass. If anyone wants a high-quality, all-solid-wood guitar for less than $500, this is it! Once again, Eastman sets a superb example and beats the competition.

Tongue Gotoh SE700s to the rescue
Posted by: Bert - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (1)

My GoldTone PBR reso came from the factory with something worse than Grover Rotomatics.... clone Rotomatics.

After a number of years, I just couldn't take another day of the clunky funky Edsel of tuners.

This is the 3rd set of SE700s I've ordered from Arkansas Musicworks over the past few years, 50 bucks (+ 9 for the 'be-gone Roto bushings'). Not a drop-in replace but easy enough after you've done a couple. I believe that Gotoh 510s are a drop-in replace?

The Gotoh SE700s are 1/2 the weight of the Edsels and everything about them excellent, far superior in operation. The tone of the PBR now has a deeper/clear bass and mids/trebles are more lively. Wanted to replace with something that didn't have so much turning play..... & butt ugly. I would never have guessed the margin of improvement overall. goodly

SE700s are a drop-in replace for Grover StaStuks btw, no bushings needed and screw holes line up, no problem.

Photo 2007 T184MX thinline w/ Bare Knuckles HP90s
Posted by: MartinW - Forum: For Sale / Trade and Online Deals - Replies (5)

2007 Eastman T184MX thinline, Bare Knuckles Pickups’ Blue Note HB-sized P90s, black gloss, excellent condition. OHSC. Original Kent Armstrong HBs included.

Solid maple top. Solid mahogany back, sides and neck. Ebony board. Hand carved. Small block under bridge, otherwise hollow.

This covers most of the 335 territory while also ranging to much woodier, hollow-body jazz tones.

$1100 shipped and PayPal in continental US.

I have a T185MX and don’t need both. (Also have an AR380 – love these Eastmans!)

More photos available upon request. (Can someone tell me how to post photos directly into this post?) mwisckol@gmail.com

I'm new here but longtime member of The Gear Page. I can provide a lot of personal information to help you shop with confidence. I live in Southern California.

Here's the story of how I came to buy and now to sell this. I've had my T185 since 2008. Great guitar, much played. Lusted after a P90 variant, but didn't want to mess with the T185 because I liked it as it was. Got a good deal on an AR 380. Again, great guitar! Then got a decent deal on the T184 and bought it to put the HP90s in. Sounds great!

So now I'm playing the AR 380 and the T184. I plan to put HP90s in the T185 as soon as I can sell the T184, because the AR 380 is taking care of my humbucker desires. Selling the T184 instead of the T185 because I prefer the slightly larger body for playing sitting down (I'm 6'1") and because the T184 is in better condition, so I think it will be easier to move.

  Sire acoustic guitars
Posted by: aant - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - No Replies

I acquired a Sire bass (the V7 Marcus Miller model) this year, and the quality of the instrument is fantastic for the price I paid - not even 500€. Well, the quality is fantastic regardless of the price actually.

And now Sire unveils their acoustic guitars range: https://www.andertons.co.uk/sire-acoustic-guitar-range

Prices seem again quite crazy. I wonder if someone here tried one of these... if I didn't have my AC522 I'd probably go for one of the R7!
