Hey folks,

Recently one of my friends passed and I helped his wife sell his rather sizable instrument collection. In exchange for my help she offered me some gear. I really fell in love with the Eastmans he had.

I ended up with a gorgeous AR805CE-CS. It’s a tremendous instrument. Just a great guitar. It’s in nearly mint condition with the original hard case, certificate and truss wrench.

But as I play more guitar, I think it’s not for me. I’m playing a lot of Merle Travis type music and I’d prefer to have a different eastman, probably a T64, Romeo NYC, T486 or T58. Something with a bigsby and ideally P90’s or Filter trons.

Either way, I figure it’s the most responsible move to attempt to either sell this guitar to get the funds to buy my dream instrument, or to find someone willing to trade.

If anyone out here has been really looking for a good jazz box and hasn’t found a decent one used, let me know! The instrument is listed on sweetwater gear exchange, and you can find it on there for pictures.

I’m in Missouri, but I can ship it wherever.

I did a quick search and not sure this topic has been covered so decided to get it started. I realize there are many kinds of players and genres for guitarists, but for the ones who play guitar to accompany their voice and/or write songs for vocals, which Eastman model do you favor? I'll start it off- i have played and own/ed many Easties and 2 are tied for first place: E10SS and AC622 Koa. Incredible for vocals, both warm and thick bass,.mids, and trebles. Enough bass to give a thump for keeping ryhthm while not dominating the vocals. Mids and trebles present, a perfect blend of dryness and sustain that lets the voice lead. Both are powerful guitars, can handle some hard strumming when needed, yet never overpower the voice.

I unfortunately am in no position to add another guitar, but if I was - I would be taking a hard look at this one. Caveats - I don’t know the seller nor the specific guitar. It just seems like a lot of guitar for short money.

Hi everyone, I'm new here   . 

Today it has arrived my E1ss ltd,used in mint condition, not destroyed by the courier :-))
I want to share with you my first impressions. 

CONSTRUCTION
Quite good for me. Open pore is not a feature, and not a finish. It means a guitar with no finish at all 
But for high end violins and classical guitars no one use nitro or poliurethane, only shellac or varnish. 
I dont'know  if is better for the sound, but an unfinished top is easy to scratch.  
Sapele on b/s is beautiful .
The tuners are cheap, maybe later I'll upgrade to something better. 
An odd thing about the ebony freatbord : it sems like glossy on the surface...


PLAYABILITY

Subjective, it's ok for me. Action ok, maybe a little on the high side, i like the neck. 
Only things that i don't like much are the fret, but that don't bother me . 



SOUND

I like it. I was searching for a guitar with that growl on the mid-lows. 
Overall, it's still a balanced sound, full of basses but  not boomy;  the high frequencies are good, not thinny, not too bright . It's quite a loud guitar. 
These are the first impressions with  .11 strings, so i don't know, 'cause i usually use .12 and recently .13
The sound for me is a bit on the ignorant side, in a good way 
My reference is my beloved 2011 Breedlove Oregon Concert sitka/myrtlewood, an OM with a big voice and lot of nuances, a more hi-fi sound, a big sustain and beautiful overtones.
This little Eastman is more brutal and much less refined, but I kinda like this sound "in your face" . A testosterone sound :-)) 

CONCLUSIONS

New guitar, so I'm happy 
A good-sounding and pretty- handmade guitar under 1000 $.


SOME THOUGHTS

The top is adirondack; It'a plus?
I know, I know, many people will disagree with me but...
Adirondack is a myth. Ok, I said that , now I put the helmet on 
Adirondack and Sitka have the -same- mechanical properties; adirondack is not "stiffer" than sitka or alpine spruce. 
We talking about wood, something measurable
High value violins and classical guitars are made with alpine spruce, not with adirondack. 
The myth of adirondack as a "better wood" cames from pre-war american guitars; but adirondack was used not because "better", it was a cheap and largely available wood at the time. 

Sapele b/s, it's a minus? IMO, no. It's a beautiful hard wood, it's not maoghany , like the african mahogany...is not mahogany. 
The real mahogany is honduran, cuban and mexican.
It's cheaper than mog, not necessarily -worst- 
I don't think sapele is a "bright" wood , this guitar is not bright nor metallic at all. 



 I read a lot  this forum and now I'm happy to be here with you with my little Eastman, I like the mood !

I'm planning on removing a pickguard from an E10SS/v and wondering if anyone has done this and any advice on best technique. I've removed pickguards from nitro finish tops easily with dental floss and gentle heat and clean up with naphtha, but thinking that may not work so well on varnish. I think it would look better without the guard especially with the distress already present. Has anyone tried this?

Davy Graham was one of the most influential folk and blues acoustic guitarists
from the 1960s onwards.
