Reflections on new E8OM-TC
Posted by: jackstraw - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (2)

I wanted to share some reflections on my new E8OM-TC, which I received about a month ago. After getting an E10SS/v, I figured that an E8OM was a logical next step. I hunted a bit, but prices have been high lately for the E8OM. Finally, I found what I thought was a good deal on a new one from a dealer and pulled the trigger.

TLDR summary:
After a setup, this E8OM-TC is a terrific guitar that has exceeded my high expectations. I love it, no regrets at all -- it's a new #1 for me.

The package arrived with a noticeable rattle. One of the case latches was detached and loose in the box. Eastman has committed to shipping me a replacement case, but it will take a while due to tariff-driven supply chain challenges. On inspection, the guitar was fine except the flange on the lower bout strap end pin was cracked (just like my E10SS/v). The pin was still solid and usable.

The guitar has a beautiful Sitka top with interesting grain (figuring?) all over it. The rosewood is also very nice. I'll get some photos up and let them speak for themselves. The finish is essentially flawless except for some extra finish overspray from the top on the bass edge of the bridge. The overall build is very solid - my first reaction was that it's much heavier than my varnish finished E10SS/v. But, after more time with it, it doesn't feel heavy as much as it feels sturdy.

The neck is very comfortable - slightly wider and thicker than my E10SS/v. Frets are great, just like every Eastman that I've seen. I noticed that the edges of the fretboard are rolled a little bit, which is a nice touch. I have no complaints about the neck at all.

The guitar has a 2021 production serial number, but a June 2025 date on the certificate. This set off 2 questions for me:
1) Does it have a nitro or poly finish? Eastman changed in 2021, so it could be either.
2) Why is there a gap between production and certificate?

I e-mailed Eastman, and they replied right away. But, they didn't say much other than enjoy the guitar. They said they don't know which serial #s have Nitro or Poly, and the only difference is that they will age differently. They said the certificate was signed after the team in Pomona set it up -- time gaps can happen. Neither of these are really of concern for me, they are more of a curiosity.

Unfortunately, on arrival, the guitar setup was very wonky. The low E was set up with 0.120" action at the 12th fret, but the treble side was 0.070". Fortunately, the shop agreed to compensate me for a setup at my local luthier. He dialed it in to 0.080 - 0.070" and was gushing compliments about the guitar. He especially noted that the guitar has exceptional balance across the strings up and down the fretboard. He said it's one of the nicest smaller-bodied guitars he's seen in a while.

This might be in my head, but the guitar really opened up after about a week of daily playing. At first, it felt muted. I attributed this to the finish and smaller body size and kept playing. Then, after about a week the volume increased substantially. I'm not sure if the top could start to break in this fast, or if this just could be the strings settling in. But, the guitar sounds fantastic now. I'd say it's as loud as my E10SS/v, just different. The sustain is fantastic, this guitar just rings and rings.

Prior to getting this, I played E10OM, E20OM-TC, and E40OM. I didn't get to A/B them on the same day, but I'd honestly rather have this E8OM-TC than any of those guitars that I played.

For me, this is the perfect complement to my E10SS/v. Obviously, the tonewoods and body shape are different. But, also, the solid build and finish of the E8OM make it the obvious choice for playing out. Honestly, I'm a little afraid of the finish on my E10SS/v and it may never leave my house. I have no such feelings about the E8OM.

Thanks for reading, please let me know if you have questions.

  E20P vs E1p Bluesmaster
Posted by: JuJuCaster - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (9)

Hi, I’m new and glad I found this forum as I am an Eastman fan!

I’ve had an e10ss that I sold because it was just not that good, then I got myself a fantastic e1ooss-LTD that I finally sold after buying the one I currently have, a lovely e1ss-LTD-CLA (I just didn’t need 2 acoustics and didn’t mind getting back space and money).

I’ve been playing a lot of ukulele for the past 2 years, because the tone is so lovely and I can take it absolutely everywhere I go, unlike a guitar.

So I haven’t touched my e1ss that much in the last 2 years and I decided selling it for an e1p bluesmaster or a e10ooss/v. I want a smaller guitar I can play in a car, couch, bed, etc…
I’m also looking at the nice e20ooss/v with slotted headstock, but it’s more expansive…

A couple days ago I went to my local music store where I bought my first 2 Eastman’s, to see if they had an e1p and they didn’t…

But he sent me a message less than a week later to tell me he was getting a used e20p that i will go to try tommortow if I can. The guitar is mint and I can have it for 1100€, which is good since they cost 2000€ new. It’s a 22/23 model so non TC I guess.

The e20p is 2000€ and the e1p the bluesmaster is 999€. It’s becoming hard to find but this is the price. The only differences I know of is the sapele back & sides, vs rosewood, and the finishes. (And a hard case for the e20p…)
I love the classic finish better than a natural one myself… but the sound and feel comes first of course.

So here is my questions: what justifies the double in price, and how do/should they compare?
Are they not supposed to be almost the same guitars? I don’t get why they compare e20p is twice as expansive new.

Here’s a picture of my e1ss btw, really stunning with that classic finish… The other one is the e20p in question.

  Fullerton SC52
Posted by: c70man - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (2)

It finally arrived and I love it.......EXCEPT.

The specs call the neck a mediuim "C". It's anything but. It measures a full inch at the first fret and 1-3/16" at the 12the fret. Feels like a Gibson baseball bat. I wrote to Eastman and I'm waiting for a response. This isn't the first time their listings online are different from the actual guitar. Don't get me wrong, I own 10 Eastmans. You could say I like them, alot.

But....I'm torn about returning it being that I waited so long to get it. The pickups sound great. The weight is amazingly light, and the fit and finish is superb. It balances well by design and the tuners seem to be holding fine. I just don't know if I can live with the reach necessary to play this thing, especially around the 7th fret and up.

Anyone else have an SC52? I would like to konw if your neck is the same or not. I appreciate any comments.
Thanks.

  2020 E6D-TC strange discoloration...
Posted by: Grendel - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (15)

Hello all - Lon time since I checked in, but I was wondering if folks could tell me what they think about an issue I'm having with my E6D-TC that I purchased back in 2021...

In the last several months there's a large area of discoloration that has emerged on the soundboard of the guitar.  It looks like a lighter "stripe" almost starting below the sound hole and extending down through the bridge to the bottom of the lower bout...  Nothing has been done to it - no spills, no weird cleaners, nothing.  I'm not sure what the deal is, and if I should be concerned? There's nothing wrong with the lacquer at all.

First pic (no pick guard) is the current one showing the issue.  Second pic shows it a few years ago.

Thoughts?

  New AC722CE fret height
Posted by: bluesman06708 - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (5)

I had the action on my new AC722 lowered by my dealer when I bought it. Felt good in the store but now that I have put numerous hours of playing the guitar the frets are hurting my fingers. I came from playing a nice Larivee LV09 with well worn frets that have been leveled a few times but I never recall this issue with that guitar when I bought it new. It's the actual height of the frets on the Eastman that bother my fingers and yes they do 'stick up' a heck of lot more than my old guitar but I expected that. So I am tinkering with the idea of actually taking the frets down a bit and seeing if that gives me more comfort. Also what i do not know is it the 'style' of the frets and maybe i would be more comfortable with a different brand of fret. So my question to this forum is if anyone else experienced this problem? I've been playing guitars my whole long life and never felt this before.

  Is this a SB59 V or TV?
Posted by: striderjg - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (4)

Hello all,
I just got a used SB59 that was sold as a /v.  To date the only finish I have experience with is poly so I'm not one hundred percent sure but I'm thinking this is poly and a TV model.  I have over a month to return it so considering my options. Including pic of some scratches as I think that's probably a solid way to id the finish.
Thanks.

What would be the minimum string height I can get away with on the E10 OOSS? Action feels a little hard.
