He's back

I had been registered under a different name and other identifiers. Don't know why my ability to post on the site went away. But, after looking high and low for a way to contact Meathead, or other responsible parties, to see if I had given offense, I have re-registered. I would bet that I just forgot my password and that's why the door has been shut in my previous face.

Anyway, as noted above "He's back." And still favorably impressed by the quality and character of my almost-new Eastman E10ss.

It’s been a long while since I’ve popped in here.  I really slacked off playing for over a year, having developed a new obsession with photographing the night sky.  I have trouble with balance apparently and I’m working on that.  I started picking up my Eastmans again a few weeks ago and boy was I rusty.  Still am but I can feel some of my chops returning along with a new enthusiasm for playing.

Since I was last here I’ve retired and moved back to Central Virginia.  I’ve had a long held dream of busking on the historic downtown mall in Charlottesville during the city’s summer Fridays After Five events, so I’m hoping to have my skill level back up by June or July so as not to embarrass myself.  I’ll be popping in here more often for inspiration and look forward to participating again.

  Surprise about the SB55's pickup
Posted by: benjams - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (1)

I recently bought a new SB55/V. I loved how it plays & resonates, but found the stock pickup (reportedly, a Lollar 50's wind P-90) too bright and decided I'd change it. Well, I emailed Lollar for a recommendation, and instead got an unexpected revelation: despite what the specs say, the SB55 does not come with the 50's wind pickup!

In their words: "Eastman incorrectly lists the pickup in that model on their website. They actually use a Low Wind neck pickup as the bridge in that guitar."
I asked if this was always the case or a running change, and they responded "As long as we've been working with Eastman (5ish years) they've been using that pickup in the SB55."

My own guitar confirms this, as the underside of the pickup it came with is labeled "LW". This matches Lollar's own photos of the Low Wind, vs the 50s wind which naturally says "'50s" instead. The Low Wind appears to be a little hotter than the 50s (7.7k vs 7.4k), and has an Alnico 5 magnet instead of the 50s's Alnico 2.
I couldn't find this info anywhere else online, so thought I'd share it here as I was pretty surprised! I wonder what the 50s wind would actually sound like in my guitar.

If anyone's wondering, I've ended up with a Seymour Duncan Antiquity P90 in my SB55. It tames the high end just enough and I like the hotter output. Really loving this guitar now!

  E10D-TC tuner question
Posted by: Foggy_mountain - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (3)

I recently just picked up a new E10d-TC from a local shop here in Portland, OR. I noticed last night that it doesn't have the Gotoh tuners installed as listed under specs on the Eastman website. Looks like it has the old Ping tuners installed. My certificate of authenticity says it was made in 2023. Is this normal for that year? Read they possibly made the change starting in 2024. Also sorry if this has been brought up before just looking for some clarification, haha. Thanks!

I managed to find a like new E2 OM Deluxe at GC. A real nice guitar for not a lot of coin. A couple of small scuffs, but otherwise in great shape. I took the Fishman Sonitone out and replaced with a Baggs M1a soundhole pickup I've had. I've gigged it a few times and it plays real nice.
Only bummer, it didn't come with the nice Eastman gig bag.

NGD - Eastman Custom E10-LGSS/V-LTD-SB LA Guitar Sales 20th Anniversary Model
Posted by: jrporter - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (5)

Ted has once more hit the ball out of the park in his "partnership" with Eastman Strings to create 20 Eastman Custom E10-LGSS/V-LTD-SB LA Guitar Sales Exclusive 20th Anniversary Model guitars https://www.eastmanguitarfans.com/Thread...-E10LGSS-V. But this post is not about Ted's ability to tweak models from guitar manufacturers such as Larrivee, Martin and Eastman (and probably others) to build much better mousetraps. That is the stuff of legend and reality. This post is about my coming around to what many others know all too well, that great guitars can come in small packages.

I recently left my comfort zone and purchased one of these 20 guitars. I say "left my comfort zone" because my previous inclinations are slanted toward dreads and some jumbos, not the "lowly" 00 bodies. However, something compelled me to purchase one of these exclusive guitars. I read so many posts by others proclaiming their love affair with small-body guitars. What was I missing? Will increasing arthritic pains drive me into abandoning dreads? Who knows?

Well, I've got say that even a scant day after receiving my new 00, I'm really warming up to the sound. Some of "my songs" sound more immediate and rootsy on this guitar than they did on my dreads. It's much more comfortable while playing on the couch than my larger bodied guitars. It's also my very first reliced guitar which is kind of cool in and of itself. It's got some heft, especially for a guitar with a small body; but ever since purchasing my first really good guitar, a Guild F512 purchased new in 1979, I've correctly or incorrectly equated heft with quality. If you have any inclination toward small body guitars, or even if you don't, this Eastman Custom E10-LGSS/V-LTD-SB LA Guitar Sales Exclusive 20th Anniversary Model might be worth a look. It's really all that and more, and there are only going to be a total of 20 of them built. And BTW Eastman seems to put a lot of thought into their cases. I don't play out so I don't go anywhere with a cased guitar, but the one that came with myE10-LGSS-LTD-SA was a very cool alligator effect hardshell case with vintage bronzed

Is this E6D TC sitca or alpine
Posted by: Bkboyd1989 - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (9)

So here on the left is my new E6D TC and on the right is my PCH2-GACE with solid sitka top, but they claim to be the same top but I've never seen a sitka tc top as light in color as my E6D is. So if yall have any experience I'd be highly grateful. The serial # on the E6D is #M2023018
