One new member and two new guitars
Posted by: normally confused - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (4)

Hi All,

Relatively new member here who wants to say hi and to thank several of you for posts that really helped me research two purchases.

I had been wanting both a small bodied acoustic and a 000 for a long time and had tried out some things that I quite liked (of which a Martin CEO-7 was probably the most fun in a store). But I REALLY didn’t want to spend that much and nothing I tried QUITE clicked with me.

I don’t remember how I heard of Eastman or found this forum, but I started stalking threads here and learned a lot about the brand, the high regard that you all hold it in, and the build quality that you expect. There are no Eastman dealers close to me, and there’s surprisingly little information elsewhere around the web, so your comments were huge. Thanks partly to the enthusiasm I saw here, I visited a couple of Eastman dealers while traveling in January (and was thoroughly impressed in side-by-side tests with far more expensive guitars).

Long story short, I did plenty more reading on this forum, bought a ‘new b-stock’ E20OOSS online in January, and love it. I don’t know whether the dealer (Blues Angel in Florida) just did a particularly great job of setting this up, but it plays great – easily one of the most comfortable acoustics I’ve ever played. I didn’t love the original strings, but I changed them out and have bonded pretty quickly since. Quite a lot of volume and surprising bass for a small bodied guitar, but it was the sustain, the sweetness of voice, and just how comfortable the neck was that really struck me first. She has a much more delicate voice than I expected from online videos. There’s a sparkle that I never heard in the CEO-7 – I guess that’s the rosewood.

Anyway, fast forward two months and I was so impressed with the OOSS that I decided to go with an Eastman OM too. So I took delivery of an E20OM-TC about three weeks ago. She isn’t as well set up as the OOSS was (action is a bit high, fret ends are sharper, fretboard edges aren’t quite as well ‘rolled’), but I figure that can all be dealt with easily enough (rolling the fretboard edges might be tricky, but I guess not too much). Otherwise, the build and finish quality are superb – pretty much flawless, as far as I can tell. The quality of the woods seems to be excellent, the lacquer and polish are perfect, and even the case was nicer than expected (gold latches and fancy yellow stitching). Far more importantly, she sounds great! She has a richer voice than the OOSS – not completely different, but with much stronger bass, much more complex overtones, a bit more sustain and a lot more volume. More interesting than the volume (to me) is the dynamic range – I’ve never played a guitar that responds so well to both picking of quiet passages and to heavy-handed strumming. That could be due to the torrefied top, but I’m not sure. String separation is excellent too – it’s hard to imagine chords ever feeling muddy or bland. Overall, I’m delighted and am expecting to be even more so after a setup.

Anyway, I just wanted thank you all for reviews and comments on your own guitars (which definitely helped me make some decisions!), to give a few thoughts about my new purchases, and to declare myself another happy Eastman customer!

Thanks for reading this long post!

Do we have any Italians here?
Posted by: Rens - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (4)

Yes, maybe a weird question. I saw my dream guitar on an Italian website (the same ad on two sites) and I have contacted the seller Monday but haven't heard anything. I did try and contact him in English and maybe he doesn't speak it or doesn't trust it.. so I'm hoping to find someone from there who's willing to lend me a little hand.

Hope this kind of topic is allowed!

  NGD - E20-OM
Posted by: Jklotz - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (7)

Hi guys,

New member here. I'm mainly an electric player, but love acoustic for relaxing around the house. Long story short, I've always wanted an OM-28, but haven't been able to find one with a 1 3/4" nut and a neck that works for me. All the modern Martins are just too skinny for me, and I'm not a big fan of V necks. So I stumbled upon the Eastmans and thought an E20-OM might be a nice little placeholder until I could find the OM-28 I've been searching for.

I have to admit I'm very surprised as what a great little guitar this thing is. I had a rocky start with it, took a few days to acclimate I guess. But now it sounds fantastic! I mean, it's common knowledge that they are amazing bang for the buck (addi top, all solid woods, jescar frets, bone nut and saddle, dovetail joint, ebony board, etc etc - unheard of at this price point), but I was not expecting to like the tone as much as I do. Hit an open D chord in drop D tuning, and it just sounds majestic! Very addictive. And I love the neck carve, just chunky enough to fill the hand with a nice taper as it goes up.

My only complaint is the string spacing. I wish it had wider spacing, which would suit an OM much better IMHO.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi. I'll do a full review with pics and a video after I really get to know it better, but so far, it seems to be a killer guitar.

  FS/OT D'Addario strings
Posted by: gnappi - Forum: For Sale / Trade and Online Deals - No Replies

I have 7 sets of D'Addario ECG25 Chrome strings (.012-.052) 7 sets (bulk packed one open but complete) of D'Addario EXL115-10P, and three sets of D'Addario EXL110 3d (10-46)

I went over to Elixir strings and figure someone else could use these.

Y'all know what they cost (ECG25's are $15 and EXL's are ~$4.85) shoot me an offer that's not insulting, of course I'll take full retail :-) and I will also trade for Elixir nanoweb 10-46's too.

I prefer not to piecemeal them out and would like to off the ECG's as one lot of 7 and the EXL115's as one lot of 7. and the EXL110's as one lot of 3. I H-A-T-E the post office and refuse to go there more than a few times :-)

  Eastman T-165 MX owners?
Posted by: gnappi - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (8)

Does anyone else here have a T-165 MX?

I ask because the one problem with mine (and a few other Eastman semi models) is it did not come from Eastman with a pickguard or an option to buy one... Grrr...

To correct this glaring problem I made what I feel is a nice looking cardboard template for my186 and cut the three layer pickguard tonight. Tomorrow I finish fitting and polishing the edge and mounting it.

So, if anyone here has a T-165MX and would like a cardboard template I'll send you one. Ask nice and I'll even cut a rectangular slab of three layer (black/white/black) pickguard material for it, I'll even pay the postage :-)

See Eastman, it's NOT a big freakin' deal, STOP making gits without a PG :-)

  Pickguard for AC420
Posted by: potlikr - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (5)

I need some advice about putting a pickguard on my AC420.  Do any of you know of a current mfg. that makes a pickguard that will fit the Eastman tone hole, without modification to the guard?  I was thinking along the lines of maybe a Taylor or Martin guard.  Thanks

  E10om-tc
Posted by: DukeS - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (8)

Hey everyone,
I know several of our members plus Tim have the E10om-tc. Just curious on your thoughts. Yes, I am really interested in buying a Mahogany back and sides, OM or 000. And I have been looking and trying used Martin's.
So really interested how you like your guitar after a month or so. Is it the first guitar you pick up? How is it for flat picking?
Thanks guys and appreciate your thoughts and help

  E10D on eBay

No affiliation, but seems in good condition at a great price.  It's an auction, so price may change -- less than 24 hours to go.
