Recording A Tune
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (18)

If I wanted to record a tune solo with a modest bass line, and rhythm line and lead line, what would be the simplest, and ideally free, software to use to record and amalgamate these three elements? Anyone have any ideas/suggestions? I am not intent on hijacking this forum for purposes other than the appreciation of Eastman guitars, but with the awesome amount of knowledge possessed by forum members, I would be foolish not to ask.

Favorite Strings on E10 OM TC
Posted by: Texmex03 - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (7)

I know its soon to ask but....Favorite strings for the Eastman E10 OM TC?

I think mine came new with D Addario from Acoustic Shoppe but I need to call and check.   I had it setup locally to get a little lower and decide to put Monels on it since I liked them on the E10SS I had.   Had them on a few days and they have gotten better but were extremely harsh at first .... but will at least give them two weeks so hopefully they break in.

I have been playing with electric and lately and purchased a Squire CV Tele in Butterscotch on top of the Strat and man its hard coming back from 9s to even a light 12 on acoustic everything feels so tight.   Night and Day!

New to EGF - only act2g-ov travel guitar in existance?
Posted by: JimmyMac - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (2)

Hello Everyone, been following this site for awhile now, and thought I’d let you know of my recent purchase of the new act2g-ov from the nice folks at Blues Angel Music in Florida.it was part of the Eastman booth at the NAMM show and decided to pull the trigger. knowing the quality of Eastman since I own the following: e8om, e6om Ltd., ac710,and an md605 Mando, I’ve been interested in their new all solid wood travel model. Just received it today, and like all my other Easties, I’m very impressed. I had previously owned a Taylor GS mini that I had trouble adapting to the different neck shape and large sound hole made it difficult to play fingestyle, so I sold it. The Eastman sounds so much nicer both plugged in and unplugged. Their using a Fishman Sonic system in these and it sounds awesome. Will make a great gigging guitar. I also like the open pore finish. I was concerned the Solid Ovangkol back and sides with the Sitka top would be quite brite, but it nicely balanced. There’s not much info out there on these new models, and I haven’t even seen another one for sale anywhere, so it looks like I have the only one for now. The Reverb listing is still up if anyone interested in the pictures!.....Jimmy

  NGD x2! E20DSB and AC822
Posted by: Vince_S - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (11)

Hey Friends! The good people over at AGF mentioned EGF to me, and while I've already been a very grateful visitor for knowledge for a while, I figured It was time for a membership and give ya'll some NGD love. I grew up in AK, classically trained by day, gigged in a heavy metal band by night Haha. After a decade hiatus from playing (life...) its fantastic to be playing again, albeit with less headbanging these days... Story time and photos for those interested!

16' E20D: Found at my local Buckdancer's Choice here in Portland, Maine. Fantastic shop. Half a dozen trips comparing it to different dreads new and used. My ears loved this box, and my fingers loved the playability. Towards the end, I was comparing it with a re-imagined D35 and HD-28. Really impressed with the build quality. I’ve got Martin Pb 13s on atm and she’s a total beast. Didn’t think I’d go for the sunburst, but I think it looks great with the herringbone binding.

08' AC822: Craigslist find here in Maine. Genuine dude who loved this guitar. Replaced with Grovers a few years ago when the A and Low E weren't holding tune. John Pearse rosewood armrest. Dual source Baggs, but isn’t installed atm. The Engelmann top is really impressive. Love the Mini-Jumboness! Martin 11's on it and an effortless fingerstyle guitar. Gotta say I love that abalone rosette and maple binding... My jury wasn't sold on the Armrest, but it is pretty dang comfy and I feel like I can tell the top rings better without my forearm resting on it.

I am stoked to be joining this community, and I have no doubt that these aren't the last Eastmans i'll fall in love with...

*notes and questions:

• The legit Grovers look and feel quite a bit more robust than the 'oem' ones on the E20D.
• There's a few tiny flakes of Nitro missing off the 822. Any advise to seal these spots? Should I? Only for the sake of preservation really.
• The nitro is much thicker on the New E20D. It's so delicate on the 822, the wood grain is clearly seen and felt under finger in places.
• High E 12th fret on the 822 is kinda dead. Neck relief and action are perfect tho. No twists or raised/flat frets. I don't really want to change the playability while I bring that note back to life...any advise is appreciated.

  Eastman SB59/v extended review
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (2)

Found this review of the SB59/v from Germany, presented by Henning Pauly. He comes across as a slightly unhinged nerd but in fact is an extravagantly gifted graduate of Berklee Music College in Boston (emulating Eastman's owner Qian Ni) graduating with a dual major in "Contemporary Writing and Production" and "Music Synthesis" with summa-cum-laude.

Another of his vids at Eastman's booth in NAMM 2019 is included below. There is a bit of bad language borne of high spirits which might offend some, so I have not included the actual link - but copy this and run it on your search engine if you want to find the vid. Eastman are cool with this vid, they should be, it features Pepijn't Hart :-

Four Strong Winds - finger picking
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

Came across this arrangement by Bryan Rason, of an Ian Tyson song Four Strong Winds which I like it a lot. And I also love Neil Young's vocal version - could have been tailor made for him (but it wasn't) :-

  S-T-E-R-E-O ---- S-T-E-R-E-O
Posted by: gnappi - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - Replies (5)

I have two gits that are factory wired for "stereo". When I got the first one ten years ago or so I initially played around with it but was generally unimpressed. Whether it was faulty wiring or poorly selected amps, I don't know.

Recently I took my ES-345 and Lucille out and had a go at stereo once again. This time I used my Polytone amp which has separate channels with separate EQ for each channel. This means that I can put the neck pup on one channel, the bridge pup on the other with separate EQ or / and a pedal.

Alternately I can send either pup to a second amp.

WOW, you have no idea how cool this sounds! Imagine... your neck pup to an amp on one side of the stage / room set to a mellow jazzy sound, and the bridge pup to the other side of the stage /  room  with another totally different EQ simultaneously. The pup selector on the git can also be switched to shut one amp / pup off or a "ping pong" effect.... left, both, right, both, left.

Anyone else using a stereo rig?

2019 New Slope Shoulder Guitar Models
Posted by: DukeS - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (30)

Hi everyone,
I am amazed at the number of new for 2019 Slope Shoulder Guitars.
I thought I could start a thread so we can share information and opinions on these new ones.
Every company seems to have a new one. My biggest interest is how the Eastman e1ss will compare to the Taylor Grand Pacific with similar specs. The Martin DSS-17 would be interesting as well.
Appreciate any thoughts guys. Should be fun comparing them once they all get in circulation.

Take care everyone!

  Best tuning machines ever
Posted by: Bert - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (15)

Waverlys and Schaller GrandTunes are excellent tuners, these are better.  Smooth 21:1, no play, precise with no stick, on & on... and great looking selection available.  One might search eBay for Gotoh 510.

This set was designed to replace Rotomatics, my Taylor GA5 had clunky, PIng made rotos.

First thing I did when I got the E20OM-tc was replace the Pings with a set of GrandTunes I had taken off my CFM 000-18 before I sold.  GrandTunes are excellent but these are better... same for any other brand out there.  .02c  bert

E1-OM First Guitar - WHich Finish Naural or Limited Edition Classic
Posted by: jlc9779 - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (26)

Just looking to buy my first acoustic guitar and have been recommended the Eastman e1-om. It has two options, a natural finish and a limited edition classic finish.
I am unable to visit the shop to see both, just wondered if anybody had options on how the limited edition classic finish looks and whether it is better to go for the limited edition. It is so hard to see what they look like on webpages. My mind says it might be safer to go for the natural but I may well kick myself if the classic one is stunning and its also limited edition. Would really value any help or opinions. I am just starting to learn again after learning a little classical at school 35 years ago. Really like the idea of the Eastman which will be far far more capable than me but hopefully I wont want to upgrade for a long time!
