Hi, after years of reading about Eastman my curiosity finally got the better of me and I bought a 10SS which arrived Thursday. I want to say I am very impressed! I don't want to write proper impressions yet as I've only managed a couple of hours with it on Bank Holiday, but for the money (£925 for the actual guitar, but I had to get it shipped to the UK from Holland which added a lot of expense - could not find a UK vendor which had this model in stock) it's a very impressive guitar with this shimmering top end that is not brittle at all, really nice.
I would like to write more impressions especially after I put it through its first string change. But I also have a few questions about the guitar and I've been lurking here for a couple weeks, so I thought I would try asking them here before contacting Eastman?
The seller said it was a 2021 model but didn't specify and there were enough fingerprints and hairline scratches on the top here and there (barely noticeable) to think the guitar has been played a little bit and the film had been taken off the pickguard. The serial is M2113294
I wanted to date it to confirm whether it has the older nitro finish or not?
Which kind of material are the bridge pins Eastman uses? They look like real ebony?
The tuning heads are Ping, correct? I don't know the brand at all. If I have one criticism so far it's that trying to make the smallest adjustment, especially on the wound 3rd, is a bit like pulling a tooth! They look fine and feel light though.
And one final question; what is the scalloping like on Eastmans? Is it aggressive like Martin's HD and Authentic range or more conservative? The guitar is a cannon, boomy but I also feel like I can tame the boominess lot easier than I could my Martin HD28.
And that's another thing; it apparently shipped with the factory DAddario EXP 012-.053's, yet if you dig into this guitar it is SO LOUD! I'm usually a medium snob, occasionally using a hybrid set with a 14 high E and 57 low E, but this guitar is so loud I might actually be able to have it properly set up for COMFORT! Very pleased with that!
Many thanks for letting me post this, I lurk and occasionally post on the Martin forum and it's good there's an Eastman forum now as I get more into the brand.
