I just had a close friend in Memphis who is not only an excellent guitarist but a very knowledgeable guitar setup and repairer do some tweaking on my DT30. The little E (1st string) was too close to fret end easily sliding off fret and string spacing had to be re-aligned perfectly and needed a little truss rod adjustment. 

I've had the guitar back a few days and the work he did made a massive improvement in playability. I use a 12-53 gauge string set. The only change I have made is moving the E&B strings (12&16 gauge) up 1 gauge to (13&17 gauge)...the 12&16 gauge had a thin sound and annoying little pingy sound. Now with with slightly heavier gauge E&B string it is super clean and full sounding with no pingyness at all. It's amazing what a difference a setup to my likings has done to improve the playability and tone to this guitar.

Two questions here.  From the pictures I can find of Eastman SS dreads they look to have an overall, slightly different shape from the square shoulder bodies aside from their having sloped shoulders.  The SS dreads look like they have a slightly narrower waist than the square shoulder guitars, similar to what Yamaha calls their "original jumbo" shape.  Am I seeing this correctly, or is the sloped shoulder causing an optical illusion for my eyes?  Second, I've heard it said that slope shoulder dreads have a particular sound.  Do any of you notice that and can you describe it?  I'm asking because I think an interesting addition to my collection would be a Mahogany body slope shoulder dread.

I've already discovered that the quality of a 1600.00 dollar Eastman transfers down to an 800.00 Eastman.  But is there an appreciable difference in overall quality and sound in their most expensive offerings, like say a E40OM-TC or a AC922CE?  I've heard it said here and other places that Eastman reserves their best luthiers for their highest price guitars, but what ever luthiers are building the guitars I have are pretty good already!

Was playing my E20P last night and found myself reflecting on just how good it sounds.  Personally speaking, one of the major advantages of Eastman instruments is the variety of tone woods available at very reasonable prices.

Adirondack on rosewood that costed less than $1300 new when I bought it a year ago.  Coupled with a high degree of craftmanship, herringbone trim and a flawless finish. I'm thankful every time I play it to have such a great instrument.

I have to admit that my Eastman 810ce didn't sound like I wanted it to.  A 2005, it was clunky sounding when plugged in.

Most often, a pickup swap is bull hockey and won't salvage a lousy guitar.

However, the 12 pole hb I've put on mine has made an amazing difference.  The guitar is so warm now.  Of course, I can still coax the ghost of Django out of it with a bit of eq, but I needed something warm and smooth, and now, I've got it.

Sooooo in love with my Eastman now.

I picked up an AC322ce Saturday and could not be any happier!  I have always loved Dreads, and still do, but this thing seems to be able to do it all.  It plays great with a pick and still retains volume when played fingerstyle. I went in the store intending on buying an E6D TC and left with something else.

I'd like to briefly introduce myself.
I have been a long time lurker of this forum and finally decided to sign in. I have been an electric guitar player for most of my life (man I love telecasters!) but have always had an acoustic guitar around, they are easy to grab and bring outside for a jam with friends.

I have recently bought an entry level E1D and must say I am amazed at how loud and woody this guitar sounds, really. It punches way more than its price, no question.

My only concern is that I recently got a Gibson J-45 original 50s which is just a tone monster and have found out that I much prefer that kind of tone, so am thinking of selling my Eastman and buy another one with a more Gibson-like tone.

What 'famous guitar' is my Eastman E1D comparable, tone wise? I suppose it is some sort of Martin sound, can you please help me on that? I am trying to educate my ears to the different famous tones of the acoustic guitars (you know, the Martin sound, the slope shoulder sound, difference in tone woods etc.).

I'm selling a mint condition Eastman E1D acoustic guitar that I purchased new from an authorized dealer a couple months ago. It comes complete with the padded gig bag, truss rod wrench, certificate, etc.  It plays & sounds great and has absolutely no wear, damage, or issues.

So why am I selling it? Well, shortly after I bought it my dream guitar (a Martin D18) fell into my lap and I pulled the trigger. So now I have too many guitars and need to make room for the Martin.

I live in Jersey City and would be happy to meet up in the NYC area.  If anyone is interested, I'd be happy to provide photos and any other info.

Have any of you tried both of these?  If so what would you say was the difference tone wise?  Thanks!

Since I do occasionally play out live, I like to have a PU in my acoustics so I can plug into a sound system at need. I prefer passive pickups because I don't have to worry about batteries failing in the middle of a set (which I've had happen with my bass, which has active pickups). In the past, I've always put K&K Pure Minis in my Eastmans, though because the installation seems rather 'fiddly' and difficult, I've always let my luthier do the install.

Having just acquired TomC's lovely E8D-TC (Alpine), I wanted a pickup in that one as well, but this time around and with some research, I figured I could handle the installation of a Schatten HFN passive PU, since it doesn't require three separate placements using Superglue like the K&Ks.

I now have the Schatten HFN installed and I thought I'd give everyone my impressions of the Schatten PU vs the K&Ks.

On the plus side:
1) It's less expensive since I didn't have to have my luthier do the install. I did the tape install since most of the reviews said that the sound was preferable that way, and yes, it's easy enough (though my forearms don't quite fit easily into the soundhole of the guitar—call me Popeye ).
2) The sound of the Schatten is very good (but I would say the same of the K&Ks, by and large). Still, I find the Schatten slightly closer to the sound of the guitar alone than the K&K.

On the minus side of the equation:
1) The output level of the Schatten is decidedly less than that of the K&K, even though I'm going through a pre-amp. I had to increase the gain on my mixer to match the volume of the K&Ks. Yes, there are some slight volume differences even with the K&Ks going from guitar to guitar, but those are very minor. This isn't. If I were just using the E8D on a gig, that wouldn't be an issue, but on normal solo gigs I use two other guitars in alternate tunings. Given that I have no soundhole volume controls, I'd have to adjust the volume on my mixer every time I switched guitars. The mixer is usually right alongside me, but not always.

That fact alone is making me consider taking out the Schatten, buying another K&K Pure Mini and having my luthier install that, but I'm going to sit on that decision for awhile. Right now my E10D is the main guitar I use in standard tuning for playing out, so I don't see that I'll have any immediate need to play the E8D live for the time being, and I can make the volume adjustment in my basement studio when I play it here at home (or just play it acoustically up in my office.)

Anyway, those are my impressions comparing those two PU options. Anyone else had the same experience?
