Buying, Selling, Shipping Rant
Posted by: vashondan - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (7)

Without going into my conversations with the buyer who was clear about his needs I'm really frustrated with this last sale ( E8OM-TC).  I agreed to not due Friends and Family because he wanted to feel secure about the purchase ($35 ka Ching).  I did three different estimates of the shipping which ended up with an average of 65.00. I sold the guitar for 964.00 taking into consideration the shipping costs so at this point I was a deficit $35.  Go to the UPS pick up place on the island and was given a shipping cost of 109.00. Now 15.00 of this was to buy signature required insurance but wow.  The person in the store tells me that it's hard to find carriers that want to come to the island but there are multiple trucks here every day from all carriers. Bad excuse.

Anyway, had to get it off my chest before I emailed the buyer so thanks for listening. I gotta question whether I could have charged a bit more and still sold it but didn't anticipate the actual cost I received.

  My acoustic pedalboard...
Posted by: sleigh - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (11)

I was practicing guitar a few days ago when the Voodoo Labs power supply I had on the pedal board suddenly and completely crapped out, forcing me to order a new power supply. But that also gave me an excuse to clean up and re-arrange my pedal board, which is fine, as I like the new, cleaner arrangement much better.

The pedal board's below. The new power supply, a Donner DP-1, is hiding below the top board; you can't see it. I'll admit to being a little dubious about the DP-1, which is easily a third cheaper than most of the comparable power supplies. If it dies, I'll replace it (again) with something more robust. But so far it's working just fine, with little noise, and I've had good luck with Donner pedals thus far.

Visible on the board, moving L to R on the top: A Donner Chorus; a Donner auto-wah; a Wampler Tumnus overdrive; a Donnor tuner; and a Boss Acoustic pre-amp. On the bottom, again moving L to R: a TC-Helicon Harmony singer (so I can occasionally sing harmony with myself); a Caverns Reverb + Delay pedal, a Digitech JamMan Solo XT Looper (so I can occasionally play a solo over the chords; a control footswitch for the JamMan, and power strip.

I know that there are acoustic purists out there who will turn up their noses at the thought of using effect pedals on acoustic guitars (and on a voice), and that's fine for them. If that's what you want, go for it! Myself, I prefer to have effects that I can use occasionally to give the audience a different sound rather than just the dry sound of an acoustic guitar all night on every song. (That's why I also drag along three guitars when I play, one in standard tuning, one in DADGAD tuning, and one tuned down a whole step to give me a semi-baritone guitar sound.) I don't use effects on every song, but for certain tunes, I want them. This gives 'em to me!

  Latest Martin 12 String
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - Replies (4)

Has anyone had hands on the latest Martin 12 string - the D-X2E 12 string?

https://www.geekculture.com/mt2/archives..._12_1.html

It seems good value for money, partly down to its HPL back and sides which, allied with its  1 7/8" Corian nut and a Tusq saddle will be a turnoff for a lot of purists I guess? It does have a solid spruce top and solid wood neck and bridge. If I was in the market for a 12 string I would seriously consider one of these. What say ye?

  40 OM neck question
Posted by: Airborne - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (7)

I have the above guitar now for 10 months and love everything about it!

I hear so many versions of the “type” of neck on any given guitar, such as, vee neck, full vee,  c shape, etc.

What type of neck is on my 40 OM?

Thanks in advance!

  Shipping Estimates I
Posted by: vashondan - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (3)

A number of people have expressed interest in the E8 and all live across country.  They're asking me for an estimate and the last time I used UPS or Fedex sites to get an estimate I was way off.  How do you guys do it?

Also, which dimensions are which.  When I stand the box up length wise (longest dimension) its 47,  across the body 21 and 8.5  which is each in terms of H, W, L?

High praise for the double top
Posted by: eljay - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - No Replies

As you might expect, I played the crud out of the new DT30OM yesterday (I'm retired). Really impressed! Last night as I was playing it, I noticed a really nice bass presence--a low growl, if you will--as I strummed. Decided to compare the E to my gold standard smaller body, my Yamaha LS-56, which has a thermally cured top.

The Yammie won, not surprising at twice the cost of the E, but the the new guy definitely held his own. Honorable mention, or better!

While looking REAL l hard at that ad for the e8d-tc I got to thinking about all that I don't know about "PLEK" - Any opinions? Explanations? Success / Horror stories?

  Woodstock

Joni Mitchell wrote this a couple of weeks after the Woodstock festival, which she didn't attend because her manager had booked her onto a live TV show he believed would better further her career. To my mind this song is the anthem of a generation. This is a live recording (effects added) of its first ever performance. Epic. Mythic. Peerless.

The Wurlitzer piano never sounded as good. I know Dan V. will like this.

  Help Need info
Posted by: vashondan - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (7)

Someone is interested in my E8OM-TC but is asking about the neck profile and I can't answer.  Specifically she's asking "what is the depth of the neck at the 1st and 9th frets".

Does an E8 owner out there have that info?

Thanks

  DT30OM is here!
Posted by: eljay - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (14)

Arrived late afternoon yesterday. Spent all day on the Brown Truck in near-100 degree weather so I didn't open the case until this morning. It's a beauty! Up close, the headstock inlay really is a gorgeous and delicate fleur de lis; in all the photos it reminded me of an insect. Tone report to follow. Good day, everyone!
