Uuggh, someone is selling a E20D -TC about 40 mins away for about $1K
Posted by: Shishigashira - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (14)

I'd love to get my hands on the E20D TC and I think the price is good enough that if I don't like it I can move it at no loss.  But I'm currently waiting on a delivery of a new Farida OT-22W after having some difficulty with a shopworn one.  What to do, what to do...

  Size of K&K Mini transducers?
Posted by: cjhorne - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (3)

Can anyone tell me the diameter of the K&K Mini transducers?

I have spent some time searching for this, and it does not seem to be published.

Thanking about putting the K&K system on a non-Eastman guitar that I have.

Thanks
CJ

  Songs to Learn
Posted by: vashondan - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (2)

Anyone have any recommendations for books or otherwise with fingerstyle songs to learn.  I'm new to fingerstyle so easy would be good.   I'm taking some lessons but want to learn some easy songs that I can learn on my own.

Just arrived and fresh out of the box.  She's a looker.  Its gong to take me a minute to get used to the SB.  I've never had a burst before.  And so the journey begins.  [Image: gbTmyFH.jpg][Image: a9O8rEw.jpg]

For the last few days, I've been regularly getting the 1040 error "Too many connections" when clicking on the EGF links, and when I do connect, the site is just c...r...a...w...l...i...n...g and terrifically slow. Is the site under a denial-of-service attack, or is there something wrong?

For me, the site is pretty much unusable right now. [Image: raFlRCr.png]

  Johnny Meyer an Eastman picker
Posted by: Zissou Intern - Forum: Guitar Videos - Replies (2)

For those of you who like bluegrass, I just discovered Johnny Meyer. He has a regular Tuesday night gig at the Station Inn. He picks an E10D and a Gibson J200 and RB3 banjo. I just can't understand how he isn't an Eastman endorsed artist.

  NGD: E6D-TC (Swiss Alpine)
Posted by: Pura Vida - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (29)

Do not adjust your screen.
You're not seeing double!

Following Tom C's very positive experience, the temptation was far too great, and I ordered an E6D-TC with Swiss Alpine from Dave's Guitar Shop.  They were incredibly responsive, helpful, and efficient... inspecting, setting up, and shipping my guitar same day from WI to CA, so that it arrived in time for Memorial Day Weekend.  The D'Add EJ16 strings were ok, but I prefer GHS and DR Rare, so I replaced them with the latter on Saturday.

I haven't owned or even (knowingly) played an Alpine Spruce guitar before, but my understanding was that Alpine contained many of the best traits from other types of Spruce:  headroom like Adi, warmth like Sitka, and even responsiveness like Engelmann.  After spending the last few days with this guitar, I think that description is pretty accurate.  It sits perfectly in the tonal pocket between my E6D (Sitka) and E10D (Adi).

Despite it being a torrified top, it's not dark like most TC guitars.  The explanation given is that Alpine Spruce needs to bake at a lower temp to cook out the sugars and resins, and as a result, the top is a lighter golden color, compared to an Adi TC (and certainly the roasted brown of a Sitka TC).  The top has a narrow, straight grain with fairly consistent color (even with the toasting), and super silky with lots of cross-grain (that's actually what sealed the deal for me).  The back is actually much nicer than Dave's or my photos capture with straight, faint vertical grain underneath the brown-red stain (none of the more prominent stripes that's common with Eastman's Mahogany guitars).

The sound is dry, sweet when played softly, and rises to the occasion, when you dig in.  There's wonderful note separation, and it's incredibly balanced (not overly middle forward).  In fact, with the DR Rare strings in place, there's a really nice low end on this guitar without any "boomy" sounds overpowering it.  Really, just perfect for my ear.

Overall, I'm incredibly pleased with this guitar and buying from Dave's Guitar Shop.  They list the guitar as "used," but said it came directly from Eastman, either as a "second" or some type of return.  I searched it high and low and can't see anything that would distinguish it from new, except possibly some stain marks on the inside wood (see photos), which nobody will ever see.

Although I enjoy my Sitka guitars, I'm partial to Adi tops, and this Swiss Alpine gives them some legitimate competition.  If Dave's gets an E8D-TC with Alpine, I will not hesitate to buy it, and if I had to make room, the Sitka guitars would go first.

Finally, my guitar did not come with any identification on the box or inside the case, but it's very clearly one of the Alpine tops (and Dave's confirmed it, listing it as such).  But others have cards, indicating the wood was sourced from Florinett AG tonewood in Switzerland, and indicate that this is harvested as "Moon Spruce," which has gotten a lot of attention lately.  Whether that's a marketing gimmick or science, this top is outstanding, and this guitar is a keeper!

How about some photos inside? There are a few marks inside, so is this the reason for it to be discounted? If so, I'd buy it every time!
