Need Help Eastman Specs
Posted by: Loudlester - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (9)

New poster with a few quick questions. I’m trying to determine if there was a finish change on the PCH1-OM and / or E1OM guitars at some point. I’m currently in the market for a reasonably priced travel / campfire guitar. I guess some of my concerns are regarding the open pore top spec & body. I thought these had a gloss top at least in appearance in some photos. Also is the neck open pore? Not sure I’m liking the open pore concept, any info on this particular finish?

Can’t find any locally to check out in person and these would need to be ordered so I’m trying to avoid surprises.

Any help would be appreciated!

I find it odd that Eastman doesn’t offer the above with the toasted top? Any thoughts on this?

Not that I would buy one from Europe or that it is a competitive price, but maybe this indicates better availability is close for the US market. This is an Eastman dealer in France with three each of the TC sitka OMs and dreads.

  E20 00 SS, a great sounding guitar
Posted by: sagebrush tom - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (2)

On the Acoustic guitar photos thread, Fellow poster Rens asked if there was any tone difference between a E40 00 SS vs. E20 00 SS. I had recently played the E20 00 SS and was blown away on the playability and tone of such guitar. So much so that I offered my E20 OM-SB to trade for. Well as I expected ( I had two chances, slim & none) my friend turned me down on the trade saying that even though my E20 was a great guitar in it's own right but he knew he had found a lifelong keeper.

So it brings me to this point of asking any of you Eastman owners of this model what are your impressions of this guitar? Did any of you experience the same reaction that I did? I'm sure there isn't a whole lot of E20 00 SS owners out there, but if anyone could share their experience I would greatly appreciate any feed back that you could offer, good or bad. Thanks

  Acoustic Pick/Plectrum Recommendations?
Posted by: NoiseFloor - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (20)

I have lots (and lots) of different picks I've used for electrics, and my preference changes over time.  I am always searching for the 'perfect' pick, which I have yet to find.  And now that I'm playing so much acoustic guitar (thanks Eastman!), it's adding a whole new dimension.

I've used Dunlop Tortex and like them soundwise, but most of the 'standard' type picks are too slippery and/or wear too easily.  I've been using the Dunlop Delrin Prime Grip and I do like the grip but the tip wears out very quickly, and I don't love the sound... brittle I guess?

I have several different style V-picks and frankly, they just sound dull to me.  And on acoustic they make a very unpleasant clicking sound when flat-picking.  I only really use them on bass when my fingers get sore and I want the attack to still sound like fingers.  I kinda don't get the love for these.

Of course I hear about Blue Chip picks, but I'm working if they will sound too much like V-picks?  I've also heard good things about Wegen picks, and Pearse as well.

My long-winded question is: have you all tried a bunch of different picks, like any listed above, and what are your favorite pick in general?

  Prs disappointment
Posted by: Zeiss - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - Replies (7)

Well I can't find any Lefty Eastman's I want . So I thought let me get something I've never had . [Image: m83jtxA.jpg]

PRS American custom 22 , pretty yes . Unfortunately I'm not bounding with it . Has the wide fat neck which is nice and the stability of the neck is impressive. Sound wise it's good actually very good . My mistake was pulling out my Eastman 59 with Gibson p94 pickups ( magic ) then the 386 with Gibson 57's ( More magic ) . The psr just doesn't have the sound they do . Also the body I don't find very comfortable . Mostly bad news Sad
So I went out to find a dream guitar to compare those two easements with. The good news is I found it . [Image: d1X7GZM.jpg]
Gibson custom shop 57 let Paul Junior . Wow what a nice guitar and compares favorably to the Eastman's. Actually overdriven hard it surpasses them. It's a bit of a one trick pony but it's the best pony I've ever ridden for what it does .
To compare by price is something we all know that love Eastman's , there's no comparison. Hey also the strings I thought should be just a bit lower in the nut , isn't that funny for a 4000. Guitar ? My Eastman's have needed a little touch on the fretboard and one or two a touch on the nut . Now in fairness the Gibson was fine and some wouldn't want the strings any lower , but I did . The weight is light on the Gibson soild one piece mahogany body just like it is on my SB59.
There's a stark reality to be learned here , this two guitars cost alot of cash and a $1500. Eastman with some better pup's can stand toe-to-to e with the Gibson absolutely bested the PRS. But even bigger lesson a $900. Eastman 386 with Gibson pups did the same thing !
Somebody told me awhile ago what GAS meant . I have it lol just ordered a Rickenbacker and parts to build a Joe bonamassa no caster.
Will be selling the PRS

Thumbs Up Eastman PCH2-OM
Posted by: campacj - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (1)

Eastman could sell this guitar for 3 times the price and it would still be a good deal. I have played for 50 years and I have owned many very fine instruments. (I currently own 15 guitars) When you consider what you are getting:
1) A solid Sitka spruce top (very nice cut).
2)
Real animal bone nut and saddle.
3) A solid mahogany neck.
4) Good tuners that hold tune (Ping RM 1171).
5) Nice, dark rosewood bridge and fingerboard.
6) Real inlaid abalone (NOT a sticker!)
All adding up to a guitar that sounds like three times the money and looks beautiful to boot, for $359? How could anyone complain? I do suggest using after-market real bone bridge pins and putting Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze 2568 Light (11-52) strings on it. IMHO mine sounds like $1000! Try it. You’ll like it.   E2-OM. Made a recording today
Posted by: Jklotz - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (7)

I've been touting the E2-OM as a great fingerstyle guitar since I got it. I did some recording today with it and thought it might be a good thing to show how it sounds. Keep in mind there is a little compression and reverb on it, but it still sounds like it does to me when I play it. Sounds pretty good, no? I really like this guitar!

(Mods, don't know if I'm allowed to post examples of my playing. If no, then please delete thread. Thanks.)

  New Eastman Day
Posted by: Joelh - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (4)

I’ve been wanting a 335 style guitar for quite some time and it soon became apparent that Eastman was the way to go

I just snagged this T386 off reverb. It is in top notch shape with a couple of important upgrades. Kluson tuners an Seymour Duncan Custom Shop Joe Bonamassa pups

Sounds and plays like a dream!

  Dreadnought advice sought
Posted by: Rad - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (3)

I have been primarily an electric player for decades.  Fenders and Gretschs mainly.  I have had three Eastmans and own a stunning T486 currently.

I have been on a Bluegrass kick for a couple months and I’m looking for a better Bluegrass tone than my Takamine or Ovation acoustics give me.

The Martin D-18 and D28 are currently on the top of my list but I figured I needed to check out Eastman.  I can’t play any right now so I thought I would ask here.

Any opinions of any Eastman Dreadnoughts that have a deep yet crisp  Classis Bluegrass tone Like the Martins are legendary for?

thanks
