E2OM Cedar
Posted by: Joelh - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (10)

Hi ! New to the forum but not new to Eastman. I have owned an AC 222, AC 512, and an AC 720. I currently have a newly acquired T386.

Today I had the chance to play an E2, cedar top. How on earth can they make a guitar this good for so little money? This guitar sounds, and plays as good as any guitar for 3 times the price!

I was looking for something that I could take out to play and not worry about it. I am looking no more. This one is it!

  Dealers
Posted by: Airborne - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (7)

I did a search for Eastman dealers and Elderly’s in Michigan came up. I went there today, but they only had two Eastmans, and no OMs.

Is it within forum rules to post names of dealers that you purchased from that provided good service?

Are there dealers that have a healthy supply of OM’s on hand?

I did find Cream City Music, and they claim a complimentary setup with each purchase. Anyone dearly with them?

Thanks in advance.

  Which would you choose.......
Posted by: Airborne - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (7)

The e20 OM tc or the e10 OM tc. I know the the b/s tone woods differ, and everyone has their opinion, but would be interested in what experienced forum members think. At my age (71), and beginner skills, I do not have the educated ear possessed by others. Because of age, I’m interested in the toasted tops as opposed to waiting possibly years for the guitar to open up. Right now I am starting basic fingerstyle, but, at times I would like moderate strumming. Finding and playing both is near impossible. I’m looking for a one good acoustic guitar purchase, and the OM is the perfect size for me. I need to move a Fender Strat Pro to make this happen. So, what say you? What would be your choice. Thanks in advance for any replies!

B string 'pinging' at the bridge
Posted by: NoiseFloor - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (1)

One anomaly I've noticed with both the E1D and now the E10OM is that I hear a bit of a 'ping' or a tinny characteristic sometimes on the B string at the bridge.  Before I got the E10, I thought it was just something quirky with the E1D, but after playing it tonight, they both do it.  Maybe since that string is compensated at the bridge and so it's contact point is much thinner it gives it that characteristic?  The pins are both are firmly seated.  It's not terrible, but enough that I noticed it on both.  Any ideas would be great!

  NGD: E10OM Limited
Posted by: NoiseFloor - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (7)

Hi,

After being blown away by my E1D, I knew I had to get another Eastman.  I wanted something a bit smaller and also more suited for fingerstyle.  After a lot of reading (on here, thanks!!!), and direct help from Pura Vida, I ended up getting a 2018 E10OM Limited for a very good price, including a case.  I've only had it a few hours, but I am every bit as happy as I hoped I would be!

Condition: If this was hanging as a new guitar in a shop I wouldn't think twice.  I can't find a single blemish.

Neck: For me, neck is the #1 criteria for any stringed instrument for me.  If I don't love the neck, it won't stay.  The neck on this is tremendous.  A little less beefy than my E1D (which is really stout), which is what I was hoping for.  I like the 1 3/4 nut width a lot, but the E1D girth is almost too much for me.  The nitro on the neck may get a little sticky at times with humidity but will be fine.  The action may actually be lower than my electrics.  It's actually almost unbelievable.  No buzzing at all.  I can't say enough about the setup.  The only neck issue I noticed is the A string 'pinged' at the nut when I was tuning it.  But I do a lot of setups and have nut files, so I can clean that up.  I was a little afraid that the fancy inlays might be too ornate for me, but seeing it in person... they 'work'.  In conclusion: it passes the biggest test for me.

Body Size: Terrific.  The dread can get a little hard on my shoulder after playing for a few hours.  The OM size (which I'd never played before) is great.  I really really like it.

Sound: I am horrible at describing sound, and I haven't gotten to play it a lot.  Also, I will say up front that I do love the sound of the E1D.  But switching back and forth between the two although they are different animals, the first thing that comes to mind for the E10OM is 'clarity'.  Comparing the two is like lo-fi (E1D) vs hi-fi (E10OM).  They are altogether different.  I love both of them a lot, but the E1D is definitely louder and boomier with a very scooped sound.  The E10OM has more balance across the spectrum and has more midrange and less volume.  I can see why fingerpickers prefer the OM shape.  The dread would definitely handle aggressive strumming better, obviously.  I may have just said a bunch of things that conflict each other, but it's the best I can do verbally.  I may make some sound samples this weekend just for the heck of it.  I'll share them here if I do.

Verdict: A keeper for sure.  I love it, and couldn't be happier with it.  It ham-and-eggs perfectly with the dread and between the two they will more than satisfy my needs.  (But those 00 sure arrrre purty... hahaha)

And seriously, thanks for all the info on here.  And a special thank you to Pura Vida!  I messaged him directly with questions about this and other guitars, and he's super cool about everything!

Oh yeah, pics!

Neil Young Album Released after 45 Years
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (1)

All you Neil-heads (I know there's a few on this site, including me) will be intrigued by the news that an album - Homegrown - recorded a few months after On The Beach, is being released - 45 years late. The review in Vintage Guitar says it is mostly acoustic and a bit loosely performed, but captured in good crisp audio.

  Eastman E10D-TC
Posted by: goodry - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (19)

Hey All,

I recently discovered the Eastman E10D-TC on reverb. In doing research it seems like a ridiculously nice guitar, not only at its price range, but in general. I have yet to add an Eastman to my collection but im beginning to round out (and sell off) my collection.

I've paired my collection down from 46 guitars down to maybe 27... with 17 up for sale.

The ones that are staying are:

Recording King RD-328 - All Solid - Torrefied Adi\East Indian Rosewood
Yamaha LJ16 - All Solid - Engleman\Rosewood
Guild F-150ce - All Solid - Spruce \ Rosewood
Takamine GN93CE - All Solid - Spruce\Black Walnut
MIK Takamine - EG544SC-4c - Solid Cedar\Koa
Guild F-150CE - All Solid - Sitka Spruce \ Rosewood
Guild D-150C - All Solid - Spruce \ East Indian Rosewood
Seagul Original S6 - Solid Cedar\Wild Cherry
Seagull Entourage Mini Jumbo - Pressure tested solid cedar \ Wild cherry
Art And Lutherie - Cedar \ Wild Cherry
Yamaha FGX800c - Solid Sprice \ Nato&Okume

I list everything I have to inquire if, in your guys' opinion, the E10D-TC would really fit a gap in what I currently have. I have wanted an Eastman for quite some time, because of its reputation, its reviews, its build quality and the general concensos or how amazing they sound.

Does anybody have any experience with the E10D-TC? What are your overall impressions? I tend to play D'Addario EXT16's or XT lights - Have you found the guitar likes mediums or are lights ok?

Is there another guitar, in the $1000 range, that would be more highly recommended?

I appreciate the time you guys have taken to read this long post. I welcome all feedback. As of right now, I found a 2018 E10D-TC for $1100 with case. So if the feedback validates my research, I think I will be getting that one.

Thanks again guys, I appreciate you staying with me on such a long post.

What music do you play on your Eastman acoustics?
Posted by: NoiseFloor - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (10)

On my electrics I play surf and rockabilly.  Since I got the E1D I'm playing almost only on that acoustic and all older strumming country and Bluegrass type flatpicking (albeit poorly on that).  I'm also learning more Blues/Hybrid picking (again not well), and I am having a blast.  I can't believe how much enjoyment I am getting out of this guitar.  I was wondering what types of music you all like to play on your Eastman acoustics?
