Martin 000-28 Modern Deluxe
Posted by: DukeS - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - Replies (5)

Hi everyone,
I will try not to make this too long. Basically comparing the Martin 000-28 Modern Deluxe my co music teacher purchased in August for I would guess 4000 including tax, to any of the E40om's I played or a e20om-tc which I have not played, but many of you have, is not even close. The Eastman sound is so much clearer, closer to a Collings or Santa Cruz. And more enjoyable to play. I played the Martin quite a bit, this one is so just "machine like" no character and he has had it a couple months, I think he is trying to convince himself that it sounds better than my E1SS, it does sound better, but the Eastman is a fun guitar to play and I enjoy playing it. And it is appropriate for me to bring to music classes. Actually if and when I get a E40om or maybe a used boutique guitar, I would not bring it to teach or accompany music classes.
I urged this guy to give Eastman a shot, or just use the cash and buy a boutique guitar or an older Martin. I actually gave him the Acoustic Shoppe phone number.
For the record I just played a Bigsby/Martin, Merle Travis guitar, I loved it. I also played a D18cw from around 2003 fantastic, both of these guitars highly enjoyable. So I am not bashing Martin, I like Martin guitars, just the money for the 000-28 Modern Deluxe seems too high.
I hope this helps someone doing a search.
Duke

Just couldn't resist. Make note of the 3rd and 4th pics of the neck. But it is a steal and just discounted $500.

I guess we're not the only ones impressed with Eastmans.

  T58/v fret question
Posted by: Skantyska - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (10)

I purchased T58 this week online. The guitar arrived yesterday. Tone/ intonation/ playability is great but the frets are sharp! Not finished well... I have a sb59 ( black w/pearly gates). Those frets are like glass!
In fairness to the seller, I play a lot of thumb over stuff. If you play this normally you may not notice. But all you have to is run you finger up and down the edge and it is very noticeably. So sharp that in an hour it was scuffing the skin on my thumb! I’m going to run it by a luthier today and have him address it. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this or is mine a one off thing?

Well, I traded my stunning blond for a beautiful redhead.

I loved the blond but two things drove me nuts. One, the jack was on the top and unless you used a right angle jack the Bigsby arm could hit it. I could have lived with that. The killer was the Bigsby made the guitar butt heavy. I sit and play most of the time and I was constantly fighting the guitar to stay put. Weird because I have two 16” Gretsch guitars with a Bigsby, a fully hollowbody and a thin line and they both balance well.

I found a T486, tried it and really liked it and the local Santa Cruz store and I worked out a fair trade. Funny because the store over in the San Jose offered me their deal with me getting $300 less for the my blond and paying $200 more for a redhead! In all fairness it could be because I have purchased my fair share of guitars, amps and odds and ends from my local store over a number of decades. Yikes, my purchases started at that store in the very early 70’s.......Ya I know, I’m old.

  NGD coming!
Posted by: sleigh - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (23)

I have a new guitar coming, a little brother to my E10D: an E8D purchased from John (chapboogie here on EGF) at the Acoustic Shoppe. Had them install a K&K pickup also. I managed to sneak the order in just prior to Eastman price increases (yay!).

Pics to come when it arrives -- can't wait (but unfortunately I don't have any choice.)  Smile

I can't believe I am selling this guitar. I guess the "death do us part" pledge I took when I first opened the case was really only a 6 month commitment. As I told her this morning, "It's not you. It's me." She agreed that it is me, and wants to move on to a better musician any way.

  My first Eastman
Posted by: tele_player - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (11)

I've played a few Eastmans in guitar shops over the past few years... thought they were nice, but I'm a snob - having a bunch of high end Martins, Gibson Custom Shop, and Fender Custom Shop guitars.

But, I wanted a 'jazz box', despite not being a true jazz player. I've played and enjoyed AR371 and AR372 before, and always liked a GOOD es-175 (but there are many bad ones).

Found a near mint AR371-CE sunburst on Reverb at a ridiculous low price. It arrived here a week later, safely surviving UPS. I wanted the 371 - I didn't wanted a bridge pickup, so I could avoid slipping into my habit of making every guitar sound like a Telecaster.

Certificate of Authenticity says it was built October 2015, that's four years ago. Condition is at least 9/10 - it could pass for new. My thinking is that a few years of aging increases the likelihood of stability.

Final verdict - GREAT guitar! Sounds great playing jazzy stuff at home, sounded great on stage playing blues (not quietly). So far, I love this thing.

My first Eastman, but it might not be my last. Maybe a carved archtop, a semi-hollow, an OM or OO, or all of these ? Smile
