PSA - AC422 at GuitarCenter
Posted by: PeteD - Forum: For Sale / Trade and Online Deals - No Replies

Not sure if this should be in the 'No Affiliation' section, so apologies if it should.

But I wanted the forum members to know that I just returned a really nice AC422 (non-cutaway) to GuitarCenter.  I had noticed it when it was listed as an 'AC22' and the price was maybe $750, but it sold and was removed.  It was then returned and eventually the price dropped to $600, so I snagged it after I confirmed that it was 422 (Hoping it was an 822, but no such luck!).

It is a really nice guitar for $600.  The top is creamy white with some nice, subtle figuring.  It sounded really nice, and has no dings or scratches.  It is pristine.  But it has 3 downsides IMHO.  the top has a small knot in the wood, lower bout treble side.  It looks like a ding from a distance, but it is a small knot.  The grain is really wide and a bit lighter on the sides particularly north of the waist (back is darker and nice, straight and tighter grain).  And finally, it came with a gig bag and not a case (despite being listed with a case).  I've got a copule of pics if anyone wants to see them.

I almost kept it.  But between the three instruments in this category that I own (this AC422, an E10OM-TC which is for sale and a new Furch Red Masters series), I am going to keep the Furch.  They all sounded great, but different.  The AC422 has a great chime and is a bit more understated.  The E10OM-TC has some great depth.  The Furch is right in the middle (and frankly I bought it new and would lose my shirt if I sold it).  So, the Furch stays.

But...for $600 for a really nice guitar with a few little issues, I thought I would point it out to everyone.  It will probably take a day or a few days to be live on GC website again.  Prob will still be listed as an AC22, FWIW.

  Eastman 905NC Information
Posted by: gecarter - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (6)

Hello all, first post here. I have recently become enamored with Eastman Archtop guitars. I think they really fill a void in the (albeit small) market for high quality carved guitars that do not cost the same as your car.

After more or less settling on an 805CE with the floating pickup, I stumbled across a 905NC with highly flamed maple all around. It seems like a big step up from the 805 cosmetically and i love the color scheme more than what I can find with the 800 series. I prefer a non-cutaway and an archtop without a pickup if possible, though I may explore not invasive pickups at a later time.

I went ahead and ordered it, but I can't find much information about it anywhere! I found one person who claimed there was an 805 and 905 NC as a dealer exclusive and is hard to find. Once the guitar arrives, I'll reach out to Eastman for more information, but has anyone ever come across one of these? I'm interested to know which dealer they were exclusive to (if true) and rough production numbers, features etc. I'll attach some photos here. (Also, can anyone tell me the difference between the 905 and 910 designation - same for the 800 series?)

I have Martins and other flattops, but the only other archtop I've owned was a The Loar LH-600VS which I really liked except for the fret work and lack of hard case. I play in a 30 piece orchestra that plays all kinds of weird folky, medieval, classical type stuff and I think this sound (and presentation) will be a boone to the group dynamic.

Many thanks for any information you might have and can share!

Best,

Geoff

Posted by: c70man - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (1)

I have a friend that needs to sell his T185 MX. Purchased new. Would this guitar be a good deal for $1600. Like new, hardly played, all original. redish brown, not sunburst.

Any comments about this guitar is appreciated.

Thanks

Two weeks ago I walked into my local GC with one of my Gretsch guitars looking to trade and left with an Eastman T486. I was blown away by the quality of the Eastman, she compared favorably with the proline Gretsch I traded even though the Gretsch cost about $1000 more. I've become an Eastman fan and couldn't resist buying another (Juliet/v Bigsby). The new Eastman arrives Tuesday and with her in the inventory Eastman will tie with Gretsch and Vintage (brand) as my most owned guitar brand.

  Thermocured sunburst slope shoulder models

Well this is interesting - Guitar Hotline is showing an E20SS-TC as well as E20 00SS-TC and an E10SS-TC. I don't remember Eastman ever offering TC models with SB. A quick search also shows them in stock at Sound Pure, Muddy River and Penny Lane Music.

  Eastman E40-OM 2018
Posted by: TomC - Forum: For Sale / Trade and Online Deals - Replies (9)

I thought this day would never come, but I am selling my E40OM. It is a 2018 with nitro finish. It is in excellent condition with the exception of two small bumps (one front, one back) and the one check that takes a lot to find. I will send pictures to anyone interested. It has upgraded Schaller tuners, Holter pickguard and K&K passive pick up. I will include the FMI (fossilized mammoth ivory) bridge pins. Includes the OHSC. The top has an exquisite amber hue from aging. There is a John Pearse rosewood armrest that has been on since new. Pictures available upon request. Price is $1600 plus shipping and any fees. Thanks for considering it.

PS - The reason for the sale is I jumped into the deep end of the pool and bought a Collings 0002H, 12 fret Sitka/Rosewood.

  FS: Eastman E10OM-TC

I've got this posted over on the AGF, which is where I purchased it back in 2020.  This is a great guitar, and I've only been half-hearted on the sale.  But I thought I would throw it up here for $100 off what I have it posted on the AGF for.  So $850 plus half of the shipping cost, up to a total of $50 on my side.  She is in excellent condition, with no major scratches or dings.  This one has a gorgeous figured back and sides, and a nicely colored top with good character.

The pictures from the posting I bought it from are better than my pics.  Can be seen here:

https://www.acousticguitarforum.com/foru...p?t=586861

I think this is a great price, and frankly I wouldn't be disappointed to keep it around longer.  So I'm going to stay firm on this pricing. But if it sells, I want it to go to someone who really appreciates Eastmans.

Happy to answer any questions or shoot more pics if anyone is interested.  Let's keep this one in the family!!

Cort Masterpiece Modern Black Acoustic Guitar
Posted by: sleigh - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - Replies (1)

Came across this today: a review of the Cort Masterpiece Modern Black Acoustic Guitar. The reviewer is too enthusiastic and over-the-top for my taste, but this is an interesting guitar, at least from what I can tell from the video. In some ways, it reminds me of my Eastman AC522CE-GB. There's no soundhole on the guitar's top, but two soundholes in the upper side. From what I understand, this guitar is not available in the States, where Corts are nearly impossible to find, but is being sold in Europe and other markets.

I have no idea on the cost. So maybe Alan or someone else could tell us more.

  Paul McCartney's 1961 Hofner 500/1 Bass
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (3)

Paul McCartney's first bass guitar – a left handed Hofner 500/1 violin bass - made in 1961 and bought the same year in Hamburg, went missing circa 1969 after the Let It Be sessions. Hofner, with Paul's support is leading a project to find it :-

Has anyone ever played a Hofner 500/1 violin bass? Any good?
