How can you tell if your guitar has one? I have a 2023 AC522CE - is it a tone tight?

  2022 D28 Standard SOLD
Posted by: vashondan - Forum: For Sale / Trade and Online Deals - Replies (6)

My most recent acquisition was a D18 Standard and since then the 28  has taken a back seat to it and my 00028.  The D18 and 00028 cover my bases well for size and wood and tonal spectru.  I also don’t really need 3 guitars. And, I'm wanting to fund a home gym.
This  guitar is in Excellent+ condition and has been played sparingly since I got it and now less and less.  No scratches or dents can be found and only a few light scratches on the pick guard. I’m asking $2100 in my pocket + actual shipping and fees if any.  No trades.

  Blueridge BG140
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - Replies (5)

Hi Josh - In response to your question, this from my original post -  ' ... I have personally owned a Blueridge BG140 solid Mahogany b&s, Sitka top slope dread and found it to be a good guitar, especially for the price. Does it sound like a Martin - well a lot more so than it sounds like a Taylor or Eastman. And acceptably resonant, quite punchy when you need it. It's a bit of a looker too if you like that kind of thing. But the 1 11/16" nut was a tad narrow for me, and I had to buy my own [hard] case. But still good value for money. So if you are in the market for a slope hog dread it may be worth a look ...'

On reflection, three years later, I was a bit hasty posting that review as evidenced by the fact that I quickly moved it on.The tuners were poor and the neck never felt right. Sounded rather good though. I didn't own it long enough or play it often enough to offer a deeper assessment, but this is the exact same model:-   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAsOXAu9ndU

I must get it out of my system and buy me a good, light J45 with a dry resonance and a neck I am fully comfy with even if primarily for strumming. This means displaying a bit of patience and if necessary travelling a ways to get hands on before buying. A dark batwing over sunburst would be good - a screw through the top less so.

  Tight tuners

I just bought an E6 om tc and the tuners are super tight. Anybody have a recommendation on how to loosen them. The G and D strings are the worst.

My next year guitar purchase debate.
Posted by: pannick - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (5)

So next year i will looking to get another acoustic. My debate will be between a Martin 000-17 Whiskey or an Eastman E20OM-SB. This past week I played a both the Martin and Eastman but a natural finish and both were just awesome. So I will have to make a few trips back to play them each more and more.

  NUGD - 1957 J45
Posted by: TomC - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - Replies (4)

I picked this up about two months back in a trade for a Martin 000-18GE + some cash. I should start with - I really like mahogany. I really like short scale guitars. I really like slope shoulder models. This one makes #4 that I currently have, although one is an Eastman E20SSv with rosewood B&S.

This is a '57 Gibson J45 in VG to VG+ condition. There is one crack on the top which someone inserted a screw into. Why? I have no idea. The crack is right on top of the brace and is stable. There are no other cracks but it does have the expected bumps and bruises from 65 years of usage. The guitar needed nothing except a very thin shim under the nut as there was some buzzing on the e & B strings. In the future I might get a new nut cut. The adjustable bridge had previously been replaced with a rosewood insert and new bone saddle. It was well done and intonation is spot on. The tuners look original Kluson Deluxe but the buttons may have been replaced as they look to be in too good of condition. There is a patch right below and probably under the pickguard. There is no evidence of the patch on the inside.  There is evidence that the guard was removed but it appears original or at least period correct. I believe in '56 or '57 Gibson went to the batwing guard replacing the tear drop from previous years. There is no evidence it ever had a neck reset. The frets are good but they show signs of being dressed. The fretboard has surprisingly very little to no evidence of indents from playing. It may be a replacement but matches the bridge.

Why I traded for it? Besides the points above - the tone of this is all Gibson. I have been chasing that tone in my head and have bought and sold many slope dreads/jumbos. I think I have found it. There really is nothing like old wood for tone. It is very balanced with maybe a little more emphasis on the mids. It projects extremely well. It does not seem to have a lot of overtones present. Basically the tone is an exceptional (IMO) example of a Gibson slope shoulder jumbo guitar. This one won't win any beauty contests (and the case was even worse) but it's a guitar that motivates me to keep playing. To be honest, I have basically played nothing else since I got it. It just fits me and what I want to hear out of an acoustic guitar. Pics are attached.

Wanted to give a local music store a plug
Posted by: pannick - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

Hopefully this is allowed.

I posted this on another forum site as well but thought that this store was so cool and since they sell Eastman guitars I wanted to post it here too.

This past week I was on vacation visiting family in St. Petersburg, FL. I was searching for a guitar shop to check out and was lucky to find a small shop called Seven C Music within a short distance of my stay so I checked them out.

I was greatly surprised. This is a great little guitar shop. It is located in the Art Walk District of St. Petersburg.

The first thing that you notice when you walk in is a stage for acoustic shows. To the right of the entrance there is a coffee bar with beer & wine as well. They have free performance along with paid performances from local and touring acoustic performers.

They had a nice variety of Eastman, Martin, Taylor and Collings acoustics. They also had a couple Fender, Eatsman and a few other electrics that I really didn't pay attention to since I was just there to look at acoustics.

I got to play a Martin 000-17 and a couple of Eastman's that I loved. I didn't actually purchase anything since I purchased an Eastman earlier this month.

The staff was great, no pressure and welcoming. They had an awesome looking repair shop set up. Not the Guitar Center type but a good one.

I thought about taking some pics but didn't.

So anyway, if you in St. Pete check them out. I think that you will enjoy it.

I am no way affiliated with them. I just had an enjoyable, no pressure visit so wanted to spread the word.

Here is their website. It looks like they are redoing the online shop on it. - www.sevencmusic.com

  E1D, E1D Special, E10D-TC comparison

I decided to make a video yesterday comparing these three models including the all new E1D-Special. I am left handed so I did the best I could do playing backwards. Please share your thoughts if you're inclined
