  Eastman AC622CE NGD!
Posted by: L-Man - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (34)

After several significant delays, I have finally taken ownership of a brand new Eastman AC622CE, with the Alpine spruce top, flamed maple back, sides and neck, and maple leaf inlays. Oh, and an armrest bevel, and sound port.

It is extremely beautiful, probably the prettiest guitar I have. My E40OM is also a beauty, but the 622 is more original, and looks less like an "Elvis" guitar.

Preliminary opinion of the tone is, perfect. I was fearing a lack of bass and a brittle treble with this wood combination, but the trebles, while bright, are round, and the bass is big and resonant, though it lacks the growl or rumble of rosewood. But, I'm fine with that - I have several rosewood guitars.

I will post some detailed pictures soon.

  Question For Eastman
Posted by: Paul O'Donnell - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (1)

I wonder if Eastman has thought about making some D series guitars with torrified tops AND sunburst finishes ......I would look real hard at an E20D-TC-SB - just sayin'........

  Scratches On Back of D18
Posted by: vashondan - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (14)

I was wiping down my D18 yesterday and as I was manuevering the guitar around in the light to see any place I missed I noticed a handful of very light scratches. Invisible almost until the light hits them just right.  I've never had this happen with another guitar so was wondering if the Martin finish is somehow more sensitive for some reason.  I think these probably happened while practicing on the couch.  Anyone have any insights?  Thanks!

  Eastman E1OM
Posted by: amsmarle - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (10)

Hi All 'Happy New Year' to all.
I'm new to the site and I posted in the wrong location and have been told to post here... my apologies.
I got a new Eastman E1 OM for Christmas and I am delighted with it, I have removed the stock strings and found that two of the tuner hexagon nuts on the front face of the headstock do not tighten up they just spin (finger loose) just keep turning, the other 4 tuners are tight and fine
I'm wondering if anyone can offer me some advice on this issue. Looks like a fault with the bush/nut assembly. Does the bush just press in or is there a thread engagement between the nut and the bush..?
any help would be appreciated

From what I've learnt up to now the tuners are Pingwell V93N 3+3 tuners and the bush is just pressed into the headstock so the hex nut is possibly just decorative and is not meant to tighten any thread as there is no thread in the component part.

I feel comfortable  enough for me not to worry too much about the issue and I don't want to return this one as it sounds wonderful.  It is my third replacement. I found with the previous two E1OM's the neck to bridge geometry had a large gap I'E' if you placed a straight edge across the frets towards the bridge the straight edge  underside location at the bridge should just be clear of the bridge.
The neck to bridge straightness gap  is extremely variable, the first E1OM that I got had a 10mm gap between the bridge and the bottom of the straight edge I returned it.  The replacement one they sent me had 5.5mm gap that was with them saying their Tech had checked the measurements, I returned for a refund and bought the third E1OM elsewhere.
I keep reading about Eastman Acoustic build quality and accuracy being fantastic.. but I am not inspired by their consistency. I have had three different Eastman's all with significant differing  dimensions 'Neck to Bridge' alignment settings. Can show photos too... but they all sounded great, think I'll keep this third one though. Just a bit unsure about the loose tuner hexagon nuts (the bush is not loose but the nuts turns by my fingers) should they be leaving the factory like this..?

I hope I have posted in the right place now and would appreciate any help/advice.. I already had some fine replies from the other side of the forum  and well appreciated

Alan

  T386 Hard Case Recommendations
Posted by: ForLoop8890 - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (3)

Happy New Year everyone!

I recently just picked up a used Eastman T386 SB from GC and am currently looking for a hard case. I have tried looking online, but to no avail. As I bought the guitar used from GC, it doesn't come with the original Eastman Hard Case.

Do you guys have any experience as to what hard cases will fit the T386? My budget is around $100-$200.

I am planning on flying with this guitar, so protection is really important for me.

Would you guys recommend a Mono type case where it is soft, but heavily padded, sort of like an in between of a hard and a soft case?

Thanks in advance!

NGD Lefty - Christmas Surprise! (2021 Edition)
Posted by: Pura Vida - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (9)

In past years, I've managed to get a guitar under the Christmas tree.  My 2017 E40D arrived four years ago, and my daughter has gotten all three of her guitars as Christmas gifts.  This year, I am very fortunate to be visited by one of my closest lifelong friends, whom I haven't seen in person for over five years (life, COVID, geographic distance, etc.).  Music has been a huge part of our friendship: attending dozens of concerts and music festivals, listening to endless hours of music, music playing on our road trips (we even drove across the U.S. together!), and playing guitar.

When he confirmed he was coming to visit, I began looking online for a left-handed guitar, since he would be unable to play any of mine.  A couple of weeks ago, I stumbled across a 2019 E10DL at a Nashville GC.  Ordering through GC would delay things b/c they transfer store-to-store, but Musician's Friend is their sister company and will ship directly to the customer for the same price, so I placed the order.

It was supposed to get upgraded to 2-day air, but GC's system decided to drop it via Economy Ground, so there was a chance it wouldn't arrive in time.  Thankfully, it arrived on 12/24, just time for my friend's visit.  The guitar was safe and acclimated, and he was completely surprised by the gift.

The guitar is in mint condition, not a mark on it, and all the case candy still inside.  The guitar has some nice color, so it's obviously been out of the case, and it's super resonant, so I think that it's had some playing time.  But it's been completely well taken care of.  The Mahogany body is everything we've come to expect from Eastman with beautiful figuring and color.  The setup seems professionally done with optimal action across the board.

And the added surprise is that there's a built-in pickup inside (I haven't checked closely, but I think some were getting shipped with LR Baggs Element pre-installed).  I might plug it in later today before they fly home tomorrow.

My friend owns a 1960s Martin that was passed down from his father, and the first thing his wife said, when he played the first chord was: "wow, listen to that tone!"  And she's right... the tone on this guitar is outstanding, and will likely continue to get better over time, and once we replace the strings that came with it.

I got a great price on this guitar, and my original thought was to have something for us to play together during his visit, figuring that I could ultimately sell it for what I paid after he left.  But this guitar was too special to let go, and in the spirit of the holiday, I decided to give it to him, so he can think of our friendship, when he plays it at home.  Time and distance may separate us, but music will always keep our friendship together.

Happy New Year!

  Cabin Fever

This will be day 6 of being snowed in.  Going absolutely stir crazy and down to canned food. Never been locked away this long before.  The dog is tired of me and frankly I'm tired of myself! Lots of guitar practice though!  I've watched the 2.5 hour Dylan special called No Direction Home and the Beatle 9 hour Get Back special. I've also binge watched a number of Netflix shows. Supposed to rain tomorrow (fingers crossed) but it will take a day or two to get the snow melted.  Yikes!
