The Existential Meaninglessness of it All
Posted by: Ted - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (5)

I have been watching a lot of videos on Youtube comparing various Eastman guitars to other much more expensive instruments, quite often Martins.
After a while it struck me how silly it all was.
What I mean is this- as a person who has had, literally, hundreds of instruments go through his hands, I know for an indisputable fact that every guitar is different from all others. I've played many Martins of the exact same model (not picking on Martin- just my example) and most were excellent- but some were not.
So, to make a comparison between say, a D18 and an Eastman that is similar in construction is kind of pointless...all you're doing is comparing that particular guitar to another particular guitar. If one compared a mediocre D18 to an exceptional Eastman and the Eastman sounded clearly better shall we come to the conclusion that "Eastmans are better than Martins"?
I know, I know- it's fun to watch the videos and it's not like you can't glean some useful information from them...I'm just sayin'

  Violin Question
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (3)

I have come to respect the amount of knowledge possessed by our members, and hope a question on violins is ok in the General Chatter section (after all Eastman makes lots of violins ha ha). I wonder if anyone knows whether torrefied wood is ever used in making violins?

  Scored an AR371!

Sometimes, the Guitar Gods smile down on you. Saw this 2013 AR371CE at my local Sam Ash and got them to knock $50 off! It’s in great condition, has a slight v-shaped neck, and came with the certificate of authenticity and its OHSC. $470, including tax! My first Eastman!

  New T64/V
Posted by: henaton - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (4)

Hey everyone, After buying an AR810CE-CS and being so pleased with it I pulled the trigger on a T64/V afew days ago.
THere is no music shop anywhere near my home so I bought this over the phone without seing it. THe dealer is a great guy and I was very comfortable with the deal. TH guitar got here yesterday and, its a great player and avery good instrument but I am unsure about a couple things. One one side of the neck the binding material is quite wavey, everywere else on the guitar it is fine.
But I am not sure about the neck joint. Becaus I am not sure if this is just the "aging" proces or if there is something unusual there I am posting a couple pics for you to look at and tell me what you think ????

It may very well be just fine, And I am still thinking only good things about EAstman, actually have two more guitars on order :-)
YOur opinion please !

  Amp (aer compact 60)
Posted by: Cromwell - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (4)

Just thought I'd give you a bit of a review if you're looking for an acoustic amp. Ive had the aer compact 60 now for almost a year. I can't recommend this amp enough, the pure acoustic sound that come out of this thing are astonishing, plus with the 2 way eq for having an other instrument or a mic plugged in to it. I'd say it's easily loud enough to perform in a small venue, like a bar ect, but it also has a di output to run through the in house pa system if it requires, that way it will give you more control of the sounds you want. But I mainly use it at home, being able to hear your acoustic how others would hear it sat in the room with you gives you a great insight into you playing.

Just thought I'd chuck this out there for anyone thinking of getting a new amp. Ask any questions you want?

Thanks guys

  Pulled the Trigger on E6D
Posted by: Ted - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (7)

Just bought the E6 D that has the Herringbone trim and Zigzag backstrip from La guitar.
Talked to Ted (the other Ted) and he said that he talked to Eastman and that they had decided that they were not going to make that standard so I will have a "one off".
Awesome- can't wait to get it.
Well, this should shut up the goblins in my head for awhile anyway......
Ahhhhhhhh

  E8OM-TC v Taylor 414CE comparison
Posted by: Shadow - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (13)

I thought it would be interesting to do a comparison between my 20 year old Sitka/Ovankol Taylor 414CE (soon to be gone) and my brand new E8OM-TC with its Sitka/Rosewood so I uploaded a short clip of each. I chose a slow fingerstyle piece which I thought would show them off best. Unfortunately it also highlights my dodgy technique!

I'd be interested to see whether you can identify which is which, and any thoughts on the differences. I hope the sound quality is good enough.
