changing pickups in my T386
Posted by: dantheman1017 - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (3)

Maybe a newbie question, but whatever.

I just got my new T386 and do love the look of the sunburst and the feel of the guitar.  I actually find myself playing it unplugged on the couch pretty often because this thing is so resonant! I like the kent armstrong pickups but I know a pickup swap is definitely imminent, which leads me to my question:

When I'm switching out the pickups, can I pop out just the two volume pots, or do I need to take the whole wiring harness out due to internal wire lengths etc. Also, what replacement pickups do you find sound good in the t386?  I'm leaning towards something underwound to get a more clean and clear sound.

  Stradivarius Guitar
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - Replies (5)

Looking for something different for Christmas? Hows about a Stradivarius guitar? Only a handful of original Stradivarius Guitars remain, and only one of those is playable - the Sabionari, 1679 guitar. The instrument has four double-sets of catgut strings (tuned A-D-G-B) and one single high string (tuned to E). No low E string - Antonio S. was obviously influenced by Keef (Richards) - I believe they used hang out together back in the day (I wonder what ever ever became of Tony?):-

here is a great Guy Clark tune titled The Cape.  A song about growing up...or not, depending on your perspective.  Guy was a wonderful storyteller.  Guitar is an E8OM, recently purchased.
I hope you enjoy the tune.

One thing that Blueridge does better than Eastman
Posted by: Ted - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - Replies (10)

One thing that I admire about Blueridge over Eastman is the way that they build their less expensive guitars.
Even on their models with laminated backs and sides they still have the same bracing pattern. (scalloped)
I can understand the marketing strategy of making your upper models sound better than your lower end models but I have to say that I think it shows more integrity to build the best guitar you can with whatever materials you're using.
I can't imagine that it would cost much more in the production to have scalloped braces in a guitar than it does to have X braces.
Whenever I bring up the PCH guitars I've noticed that people avert their eyes.. "Oh no, he's talking about the ugly sister again"
Maybe that's why?

  Confused about what to do
Posted by: Horax - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (19)

I have an ac320ce that is awesome. It’s the spruce/hog version.

I have an offer to trade for an e10OM.

Truth be told I’ve always wanted an OM, but I really like the warmth of the dreadnaught.

Having never played an eastman om, how would the warmth of tone compare to the dread?

  Electric Fingernails
Posted by: Ted - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (7)

Does anyone else play electric guitar with their fingernails?
I used to always play electrics with a flatpick and then I saw Mark Knopfler on video and thought -hmmmmm.
My orientation for all guitar playing starts with my experience playing classical guitar so playing with nails feels perfectly natural- when I first started playing my electrics that way I had to adjust my technique to a much softer attack but I think that I'm sounding pretty good now.
Also, what Eastman models are similar to an ES335? That might be the next on my list to acquire.
In the past I owned two Gibson ES335's, a 1967 Blond and a 1976 Walnut colored sunburst- how do the Eastman versions match up?....let me guess. Big Grin

  Natural rosewood reverberation
Posted by: Rbpicker - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (3)

I just bought a used (mint, seldom played) E8OM, and while I am becoming more fond of the guitar, I’m finding that it seems to have an excess of reverberation to the sound.  I know that rosewood has a distinctive “metallic chime” not present in mahogany, but this seems to be a bit more than other rosewood I’ve played from Martin, Larrivee, etc.
I’m wondering if I might expect it to settle down a bit as it matures and opens up, or if this is just the way Eastmans sound.  I’ll still play it and enjoy it, but just wondering what others have found as their guitars mature.
I’ve tried a variety of strings and found that Martin Monels have a more fundamental tone that calms things down a wee bit.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
