Used but new E10D-TC
Posted by: JJStubby - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (7)

Just bought an immaculate E10D-TC,used from guitar center, imagine that.I was cruising the used sites online and boom there it was.I could hardly believe it was at GC used,so I called and got an honest description of the condition and couldn’t believe as to why anyone would sell or trade this particular guitar at GC because they only give you so much for trade ins.The salesperson told me that the person traded up for a Martin electric model of some sorts and the E10D-TC was as new.I couldn’t pass on this one so bought it knowing that GC would would take it back per their return policy.I knew all of the reviews were positive and I had been gassing for this particular guitar for a while.I received the guitar and it is pretty much perfect,no fret wear or anything, just like new, even has some bear claw on the top, sweet! I added a nice Holter pick guard and I now have my keeper as they say. The guitar sounds incredible and is getting better,I can already hear it opening up because I play a lot at church.I take good care of my instruments but I’m not afraid to play’em either. To say I’m pleased with it is an understatement.Blessed to have such a great guitar because I’ve had’em all from cheap to expensive.I really am going to try and keep this one.Ha Ha !

  Lady Franklin's Lament
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: Guitar Videos - Replies (4)

One of my favourite traditional songs is Lady Franklin's Lament about explorer Sir John Franklin's 1845 voyage to discover a sea passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific through the frozen ice of Canada's polar region. I stumbled across this excellent version by an Indianapolis band called Hogeye Navvy. Anyone heard of them? They are new to me.

  Finish Protection
Posted by: Pura Vida - Forum: General Chatter - No Replies

I already posted this on the AGF, but thought it was worth mentioning here.  Recently, I discovered some minor finish markings on the side of my guitar, where my strumming arm rests.  I can see and feel the affected areas, and I'm pretty sure that the nitro was "melted" by deodorant coming through my shirt sleeve.  Thankfully, it's only on two guitars, and the others all seem fine.

The only other exposure I can think of is from playing my guitar after using the hot tub, where there was some residual chlorine on my skin (I typically dry off, but don't usually jump right in the shower) or possibly from my post-tub body heat melting the finish.  Both are possibilities, but seem unlikely to me.

I tried my usual cleaning products and just purchased Virtuoso cleaner and polish, but because I think the finish surface is affected, it's unlikely that the cleaning products will help.  If it can't be buffed out, then it will likely stay this way unless I have the nitro refinished.

EGF/AGF member Uncle Jesse provided me with an Amazon link for arm sleeves, which have worked out well to mitigate further damage.  They sell as a pair, one-size-fits-all, and I hardly notice them on my arm (only wearing on my strumming arm).  I can post the link, if anyone is interested.

Short version: protect your finish by wearing long sleeve shirts, or if that's unlikely (I rarely wear long sleeves), then use a temporary sleeve or something else to provide a barrier between your skin and the guitar finish.

  I got bored tonight
Posted by: Zeiss - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (3)

I took the sb59 and did the alnico II magnet swap to the bridge. Installed Gibson t95r in the neck . Happy so far definitely the bridge is a improvement , neck is what I thought it would be clear and clean weather using overdrive or not. It's not as bright as a neck SD phat cat . Happily the two pickups work well together.
The guitar is handmade that's for sure . The top is very unequal and they had to cut the trim rings to fit .
I can't seem to get pics to load tonight, will try tomorrow[Image: ecbz3rp.jpg][Image: iBFbybs.jpg][Image: 0k1SSku.jpg]

Classic Finish, Is it Reddish or Brownish
Posted by: billymo - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (6)

For her first guitar, my student wants a "new" guitar, an OM size, max budget is $300. We were ready to order an Eastman PCH1-OM in the reddish "Classic Finish", which she really likes. But various websites show the Classic Finish to be light red, some dark dark red, others light brown, then also very dark brown. Might Eastman have sent out some, and then made a big change, as they often do? Or, maybe it's just different cameras, different lighting, poor photography etc.? Thanks for any opinions....

  25.5", meet 1 1/2"
Posted by: eastmanschool - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (6)

Someone at the AGF posted asking if Eastman made an OM that's 25.5" scale, with maple back and sides.

I don't care about the maple, but the other question, + 1 of mine for good measure, got me shaking my head - again.

Considering the fact that an OM is afterall *technically* 25.5" scale, why DOESN'T Eastman? And for criminy's sake, why not make an OM with a true 1 1/2" string spacing? It's becoming the industry standard.

Capo recommendation for E8 OM ?
Posted by: JackR - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (2)

What do you like for your current OM model?  1 3/4" with even (full) C profile.  I like the G7 ART concept. Never tried one. A lot of parts and a little pricey?

Thanks, Jack

  Yamaha Silent Guitar
Posted by: Chris Pile - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - Replies (6)

Has anyone here own or ever played a Yamaha Silent Guitar - one of those spindly, barely there collapsible guitars with the built in electronics that sounds like an acoustic steel string or classical guitar? Ya know - like this... (nylon string pictured)
I ask because I have a very early steel string model. Came equipped with bronze strings, but I installed a set of electric strings - .010's.... The UST pickup sounds about like what you would think, but it has another sound - a digital sample of an acoustic. You can mix them together. The result is quite useable live or for recording - no need for mics, and no feedback. Very controllable and easy to process. It's kind of an anti-Eastman, but it has a place in the guitar world.

I did a setup on mine and got it to play like a Les Paul, but it's light as can be and fun to work with. Has built-in effects, and even a circuit for the input of a practice recording (comes through the headphones if it's late or in a hotel). I was thinking of adding a Bill Lawrence pickup at the neck (like for an acoustic flattop or archtop), and mixing it in for a 3rd sound.

Thoughts, opinions, questions?

Eastman E40om vs Recording King RO-327
Posted by: jpricewood - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (11)

Hi everyone,
I currently have a Recording King RO-327 (basically an E40om with forward shifted bracing) that I do enjoy. It is quite loud, but the tone is very dry in comparison to my Eastmans. As far as I can tell, the RO-327 is a very rare model, which makes it pretty cool in my book. But, I also have an E8D that is incredibly rich and resonant. I can't help but wonder if a E40om is as resonant as its dreadnought brother. My beautiful AC922 is not as resonant as the E8D, but my AH6OME does have a very similar resonance to my E10D. All of this could be due to the ages of my guitars.

I hate to say it, but I'm considering selling the 327 and the 922 and buying an E40om-sunburst. I just know that it'll be close to impossible to buy these two models again if I ever decide I made a mistake.

P.S. NGD post coming soon.
