In a possible case of mistaken identity I may have unintentionally blamed Eastman
Posted by: Grandpa Bucky - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (5)

Yesterday I created a post complaining about the fret length on my DT30GACE guitar. I may have fingered the wrong suspect. It never occurred to me that the previous owner might be the culprit. I need to apologize for jumping the gun with my accusation. It is entirely possible the previous owner decided to mess with perfection and hired a luthier to reduce the frets and then the luthier got carried away.

When I got the guitar the wiring inside had come loose. Near the battery a clip had fallen off and was dangling from the wire. A wire was not in the clip in another location and another clip that was supposed to contain three wires, only held two while one dangled loose. Rather than problems from the factory, this may indicate the previous owner messing around inside, possibly removing the pickup system and then reinstalling when deciding to sell the guitar. And it is possible that the owner may have decided to sell because the fret reduction issue made playing a pain due to the bass string slipping off the neck.

In California, just inland from the coast, our weather does not result in huge swings of humidity and temperature so necks are fairly stable. In a place with dry winters and humid summers, necks can swell and shrink with the weather and the fret ends may have felt sharp at one point causing the owner to decide they needed work.

So I'm unable to cast blame. I can however, complain about the fret length, because that is definitely a problem. I'll be taking it to a trusted luthier in a few hours.

I'm downsizing, have picked up too many acoustics lately, and I just don't play electric at all anymore. I'm putting in the Reverb links because I'm lazy, but if someone from the forum wants them contact me here for better pricing.  Thanks for looking!!

  Eastman Serial Numbers
Posted by: Blackmore Fan - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (1)

So I have an AC320 that I bought used a few years ago.  I'm curious how old it is--does it sound this good because it IS this good, or in part because it has "opened up".

The serial number is 11055599.

How old is this guitar?

Hello all, I just found this forum yesterday and I'm pleased to find such a place that has so much Eastman knowledge.

I currently own 2 Eastmans, both dreads.  About 3 years ago I purchased a near-mint AC320 used at a local shop.  Its absolutely beautiful, and the first solid body acoustic I've ever owned--I previously played mostly Fender Strats.

And then about 2 years ago I bought a near-mint E20D in sunburst.  This guitar is amazing too!

I had read in other forums about Eastmans, and how well they stacked up against other solid body acoustics, but I'm amazed that the reviews I had read were true.  What amazing guitars.

I'm now hooked on Eastmans.  I think my next acoustic will be a TC dread of some kind.  There's a E20D TC in Moroccan Rosewood at a local shop that is one of the sweetest guitars I've ever played.

This is someone else's photo of a E20D that is identical to mine:

  Eastman E1D w/ K&K Pure Mini - $PENDING Shipped
Posted by: UncleJesse - Forum: For Sale / Trade and Online Deals - Replies (1)

For sale is a 2021 Eastman E1D in excellent condition.  Setup and plays great.   It has a K&K Pure Mini pickup, strap button in correct spot on underside of heel and the bridge has been slotted and reamed for solid ebony bridge pins.  This would make a great gigging guitar.

This model is solid Sitka top with solid Sapele back and sides.  Based on the color of the top along with the sound I believe this could be a torrefied Sitka top.  They have been randomly using torrefied tops on all models since supply chain stresses during the pandemic.  It features a nice medium C 1 3/4" nut width and 2 5/32" bridge spacing.  Comes with Eastman branded soft sided case (very nice).

I’m asking $SOLD shipped

  Open pore finish E3 OME
Posted by: Mick - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (7)

Just bought my first Eastman andI love it, but for one point that spoils an otherwise lovely guitar. The finish to the neck where it joins the body, on just the lowest section that forms the bracket. At this point it is all the end grain showing. Mine has many little pot marks tiny indentations showing which does not look very pretty. The end grain that is visible at the headstock end of the neck has a lovely smooth finish. Eastman have agreed to exchange my guitar which is fine, however my dealer tells me all of the E3 models have this issue to some extent. Eastman tell me it is the "open pore" finish. Doesn't say anything about open pore in the spec. I will be interested to read of anyone else who has noted this.

  New Pickguard for my E8OM
Posted by: Mitch - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (8)

After owning my E8OM for three years now I thought I show her a bit of appreciation and start a little project.

Changing to a classic 000 pickguard. Ordered from JP Guitars in the UK. 000-18/000-28 style pickguard, celluloid, brown Tortoise.

Now the original pickguard is fine no issues with it. But I just wanted that she looks like a 000 acoustic even if it is ‚just‘ by Martin standards. Well correct me if that is wrong…

I am mainly a strummer, maybe one of the few that enjoys it on a smaller Guitar as well. Of course, not heavy handed nonetheless a bigger pickguard will not hurt I guess Cool

There is something about this E8OM that just fascinates me. My kids prefer the E10SS‘s sound and look but I still have a faible for the smaller one even though I have gone through some ‚hassle‘ with it. For one, it isn’t tidy inside, some glue left overs, that inside coating not applied smoothly… a bit of a Diva i‘d say.

I Did de-gloss the fretboard, had to show a little crack on the top but beneath the nitro to a luthier. All fine. And now, no idea how that happened, the bridge lifted a small bit and shows a little gap. I really hope it can be re-glued w/o taking off the entire bridge. If that is possible. Not a clue.

Sorry, back to the project. The pickguard arrived today. Looks nice. Happy about it. First quick placement shows the radius fits and it should just about cover the tan line everywhere. Remarkable tan line I think considering the Guitar is in its case when not played and I cannot play daily, just a few times a week.

So as I never removed a pickguard before, I first thought I bring it to a luthier, show the bridge lifting, get them to install a second strap pin on the heel and remove the pickguard and place the new one. Well things came differently…might even tackle the strap pin going forward.

I read that lighter fluid is no danger for nitro. So I bought fluid for Zippo‘s. Seems it worked fine. Took a dental floss to slowly grind beneath the pickguard. Was able to lift it w/o heat or other stuff. The hard part was to remove the sticky glue. It all stayed on the guitar. Had to soak it with lighter fluid a few times. Best was to rub with the fingers, even got a blister. Took me quite some time. Finally it all came off. Used a cloth for the final part.

I will attach the new pickguard tomorrow. Just placed it on top to see how it looks. Nice. The Guitarstrap looks nice too I think. Rock‘n‘Roll Wink

Updates follow…..less chit chat more facts Big Grin

Mhh.. the pics are not arranged in order I am afraid. Tried to. Sorry

What are your thoughts on the OM / 000 pickguard issue? My decision was purely from an aesthetical point of view….and maybe by some standards from the past Tongue

Cheers
