Hello All - I'm trying to get a sense of the difference (if noticeable) between the E20D TC MR and the garden variety TC - any opinions would be appreciated - thanks.

  New here - Eastman 810ce
Posted by: ACWATERCOLORS - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (9)

Hi all,
I just got an Eastman 810CE recently (second hand, it was the previous model, with floating pickup).
I absolutely love that guitar, such an easy box to play.
I give my luthier the guitar for a few adjustments to be done, and now it's even better.
The Serial is 7061. I contacted Eastman, but they cannot provide help in evaluating the year of production.
Any idea ?

I am thinking of replacing the original floating KA pick-up (pickguardmounted), which is a bit to bright.
Maybe with a Benedetto, or a Benedetti (made in France).
Here a few pictures of the model.

East Indian vs Madagascar Rosewood - Differences
Posted by: Richard Hauser - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (8)

I  have read articles where luthiers have said the main sound differrences between instruments results from construction differences rather than type of wood.  They also wrote that the back and sides of guitar do not affect sound as much as the top of the guitar.  Do average players detect much difference in sound between these 2 types of wood ?

I made a deposit 4 or 5 months ago on a E20D MR TC.  I don't think I will ever do something like that again.  I have several guitars but none are rosewood guitars.  I have been waiting 4 or 5 months for a guitar.  Maybe I should just go out an buy a E20D TC or an E40D.

NGD: AR380 - the archtop experiment continues
Posted by: nostatic - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (1)

As I've been working on my jazz chops, I've also been sorting out the best "fit" for my wants/needs. Ergonomics come into play on an archtop, and they can be somewhat fiddly compared to solid bodies. For those playing along at home, the scorecard so far:

Romeo - loved the sound, didn't love where it sat on my knee. It is one of the deep neck designs that shifts the bridge back. With the way I play and hold the instrument, it ends up with funky balance and wants to slip off my leg. Sold it to a happy new owner for a good price (well, good for him).

AR603CED-15 - there are things I initially really liked about this: all solid/carved, great fit/finish, plays/sounds great, is about the same size as my OM acoustic albeit not quite as deep. All good until I got curious about a 16" body instrument, which is where I now have landed. I did determine that I do prefer having the depth under 3", but over 2". This one is up for sale.

AR580CE - got this used and it didn't have a mark on it, '22 build as far as I can tell. I did have to shim the tailpiece to get the bridge to sit where I want it but arch tops can be fiddly. Put TI flats on it and am tuned to my normal Eb. Sounds like a proper jazz box, and I found that I really liked the 16" body - this one is 2-9/16" deep. That got me curious about Pisanos.

AR380CED (the latest entry) - showed up yesterday, purchased new. It came with 11s which are a non-starter for me since I typically am tuned flat. Swapped to 12s and did some minor tweaks. Great ergonomics, plays and sounds great. Since it is all laminate it should cover the louder situation and will do the rock thing as well.

Of course that has me pondering an AR880CE but that's another story. Anywho, the new kid in town:

  NGD E1SS-SB
Posted by: EP1 - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (15)

I purchased the new E1 SS-SB a few days ago. This is the one used in The Acoustic Shoppe video that is linked below.

The first impression from the video is tone. It has so many of the fundamentals expected from a slope shoulder guitar, yet a wee bit more sustain. Not the quick decay usually usually associated but not a lingering piano like sustain either. It's a nice compromise between the two that may be due to sapele back and sides, the finsh applied, or general construction. I've found the additional sustain while playing to be an nice addition.

The first time the guitar was picked up, it felt very light. Having owned the E20 SS, I can feel a weight difference which is a pleasant surprise.
The neck is a very comfortable C shape with 1 11/16 bone nut. Both the bone nut and saddle are finished properly with very good setup out of the box. While the minimal difference between 1 11/16 and 1 3/4 in the nut is easily accommodated, I do like bridge pins with a larger head. The stock ebony pins have been exchanged to ebony pins with a slightly larger head. We all have our comfort zone.

Eastman continues to find a niche then fill it at a price point with an instrument that punches above its weight. At $579.00 street price you're getting a lot of guitar.
