AC522ce vs AC622ce - More dollars than sense edition
Posted by: Prahanien - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (9)

So I have some more money burning a hole in my pocket and I am GASing hard for a new AC. The soundport.... the beveled arm rest....the inlays.... So. Since it is nearly impossible to play these side by side or even see one in person. Sway me...

I love mahogany. I have bought and sold a lot of guitars but always end up keeping the hogs, it’s the midrange that I love. Rosewood was always too dead in the mids so it made the highs too unbalanced for me. Never had a maple though....

I play 98% fingerstyle. Will maple be too bright for me as a hog fan or is the bumped mids enough to balance it out. Will I regret getting the maple and should have just stuck with the tried and true mahogany? I already have two other mahogany and wanted something different but not just for the sake of being different. The only review of the AC622ce on YouTube that even mentions fingerstyle said, paraphrased, it’s great fingerstyle because it’s very clear and the Engelmann top subdues the brightness a bit. Also that is “sits in the mids”. This was an encouraging review but it was only one... and everyone else just mentions the brightness of Maple.

The good news bad news is it looks like the maple isn’t in stock anywhere so I might have a few more weeks to decide. Any guidance is appreciated friends.

  E1 OM question
Posted by: mojoit - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (12)

Hi all!

Had a quick question for the more informed and keen-eyed members of the forum.  I purchased a E1 OM this past weekend as I had a most unfortunate April Fool's joke of opening the case to my 33 Gibson L-00 to find the bridge had pulled up and ripped right out of the soundboard, so it's been sent off to the luthier for a several month spa date.  Heart fell straight through the floor.  After demoing several Eastman's I was impressed to say the least, especially after looking at the price tag.  At any rate, the piece I ended up purchasing appeared markedly different than the others, most notably the much darker (to my eye), high gloss top.  I'm curious if anyone here could have a look at the pictures I attached (apologies for the poor cell phone pic quality) and give their best guess as to what "variant" I may have, if it's even a variant at all.  My thought was cedar instead of the specced sitka, but I'm not sure why it would have been finished high gloss, when the rest of the models were a satin finish.  Sides/back look to be sapele and the neck looks to be maple.  I reached out to Eastman as well, but any insight here would be appreciated, thanks folks!

  WTB - E10OM-LTD
Posted by: Mccandmore - Forum: For Sale / Trade and Online Deals - Replies (1)

I’m after an e10om LTD. I’ve seen a couple here recently but I wasn’t quick enough. For clarification, this is the E10-OM with a slotted headstock, special inlays, hog B&S, and 1 3/4 nut. See sold listings on Reverb for examples.

I’m the happy owner of an e20OM TC and a PCH3-OM KOA and am looking for a slothead to fill out the OM group. I appreciate any leads.

Thanks,
McCandmore

  Gibson L-00 Studio/Standard
Posted by: Airborne - Forum: Other Guitar Brands - Replies (3)

Really like the looks of the above guitars with burst finish.

The Studio has walnut B/S, fretboard, and bridge, while the Standard has Rosewood accoutrements.

Trying to A/B these guitars is virtually impossible with the current situation with the virus and availability issues.

With that said, has anyone owned, and, or, played any one or both of these guitars? I know the Standard is about a grand more than the Studio and wonder if the additional cost is worth it in your opinion?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

  New Guitar E10SS/v
Posted by: NoiseFloor - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (8)

Thanks to (Pura Vida) Brian's advice, after selling several guitars I decided to buy an E10SS/v.  He knows that I love variety in feel as much as sound, and thought it would be a great choice, and he was so right!  It is probably the most sensitive guitar I’ve played. It is affected by every aspect of playing: attack, strings, picks, conditions, etc... I think it will make me a better player. Every mistake jumps out.  I do think the action could be lowered a bit, which I will do.  Aesthetically, I love that the relic'ing is so subtle you could barely call it that.  But the varnish is so thin it will likely show playwear before long.

Here are a few pictures, including one of all my current acoustics.  As I mentioned, they are all so very different, which I just love.

  Strings for AC422?
Posted by: vashondan - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (10)

My E6OM is being set up as I type and when I pick it up I'll be leaving the 422.  As a result of having only the one here I've been playing the 422 a lot and have been enjoying it as I get used to the GA body.  The e & b strings are a bit bright for me not a bad sound but brighter than I'm used to.  Should I change to different strings?  I think there was a thread but I can't find it.  What type/brand can tame some of that?

  $5,000 budget, Non-Eastman acoustic...
Posted by: Meathead - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (12)

In the vein of the desert island guitar challenge, here's another one:

"If you had $5,000 to spend on an acoustic guitar, what would you buy?"  - the only rule is the guitar cannot be an Eastman!  Smile

For me, it would probably be a Lowden 25 series (Cedar top).  Incredible guitars, I've had a chance to play a few at acoustic vibes in Tempe AZ.

What say you?

String change on my E20 OM-SB
Posted by: sagebrush tom - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (18)

After 15 months I finally decided to change strings on my Eastman E20 as unused strings sets were piling up. I use SCGC parabolic low tension strings on my OM. The tone still sounded decent but I went ahead and changed them anyways, what a difference in volume, clarity and I really like feel of their new strings as the low tension makes it easy on the fingers. The strings seem to soften the dark sound that the rosewood can bring out, but they're not that bright sounding. It's like the EQ of each string was adjusted in the guitar too really bring out a balanced tone.

I'm thinking of cutting down the lifetime of these strings by half but after 7 months or so they still sound great. (My E10 00 is at 8 months SCGC low tension string life and still sounding great). I have a subscription for the low tension strings and for $18.00 each with no shipping charge. The long life they can achieve, to me makes the parabolic strings no more costly than cheaper priced strings. YMMV.

  Eastman Cabaret confusion
Posted by: Mamajaneastmanfan - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (5)

I'm thinking of buying this model and there's very little I can find out about my question. I put a call in to Eastman and they haven't called back.
on their website the string posts and hardware are black, but most of the pictures of the ones for sale or on YouTube are white posts and gold hardware. Anyone know why? I'm guessing it's from the year of build. But what came first? And is one better than the other?
