"30 years of Eastman: revisiting the golden age of handcrafted guitar making"
Posted by: cjhorne - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (7)

GUITAR WORLD just published a nice article about Eastman.

https://www.guitarworld.com/features/30-...an-guitars

A few excerpts:

“'We have redone the golden age of guitar building,' says Eastman International Sales and Product Development Manager of Fretted Instruments Pepijn ’t Hart. 'But it all came naturally. From the beginning, our focus was to use traditional building techniques to provide the best possible instruments that anyone could afford.'"

Even though Eastman has grown significantly over the last 30 years, the company still builds its instruments by hand, using power tools only when they are absolutely necessary. As demand for Eastman guitars has increased, that presented a few challenges.  “There is no button we can push that allows us to build more instruments at once,” Hart says. “The majority of our building process is done by hand, which is something we are very proud of and don’t want to change. That is truly the unique characteristic of an Eastman.

“Sometimes customers will want us to duplicate the neck on an Eastman model they own, but we can’t really do that as all of our necks are shaped by hand and every neck has a specific individual feel.”

Enough with the spruce tops already!
Posted by: Rens - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (10)

I would just love to see some other tops than spruce. It's all spruce spruce spruce, and I'd love to have something more mellow. Currently, I'm really going down the path of playing more classical, and even their classical guitar is spruce! Now, classical guitar isn't an easy market since it has a lof of unbelievably consernative players who won't easily try something else.
I'd say their current model already is pricing them right out of the market, because for less than that money you have a beautifully hand-built Spanish guitar from Spain. Had they taken a different route, added a few different tops (because a lot of classical players wouldn't be caught dead with a spruce top), they really might have had something. Alas!

What would you like to see as a different top wood?

  E10D, Light or Medium Strings?

What is your preference? I can’t decide if mediums make enough of a difference to justify the extra tension. No idea what came stock on it.

So if you saw my post in the intro thread, you saw that this was incoming.  I've been drooling over the listing for this since I first saw it on Reverb - it's the only AC322 that I've seen in Sunburst, and with different, minimal inlays from the norm.  Definite love for the cosmetics - I was waffling between this and an AC122 in Classic finish, but this one won out - the hard case is worth at least half of the price difference between the two, and it's a very nice hard case, though it does smell strongly of glue.  Will be letting that air out for a bit.

I am super impressed by this guitar - I hadn't gotten to play one as the nearest dealer is 90 minutes from me, and I have a hard time carving out 3 hours of drive time plus time to play.  It made more sense to order from a dealer with a good return policy, though my order was with intent to keep - and she seems like a keeper!

Neck is a super comfy C profile, the binding and fretwork are impeccable - playability is phenomenal!  Tone is very balanced, which I love - no frequency range overpowers the others.  I can't wait until she opens up a bit - definitely sounds new at the moment - and great, so I know some playing to open her up is just going to be that much better Smile.

Have some pics - I took the first three, then included a couple dealer pics since they're better photographers.  Speaking of the dealer, I have to give a shout out to The Chapman's Acoustic Shoppe in Springfield MO - just a smooth process the whole way, and the guitar is in my hands 2 days after ordering.  They're at the top of my list for future shopping.

  Recommended Polish For Bourgeois Finishes
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (2)

I contacted Bourgeois requesting them to recommend a polish for removing swirls/faint scratches from the back of my 2020 Bourgeois OM. I guess this would apply to all the current Eastman guitars too (excepting the varnish finish models) as they now use Dana's finish. They replied promptly with this :-

'Thank you for the inquiry.
I've checked in with our repair team and they provided the following solutions:
Novus 2 will remove minor scratches. Apply a small drop on a clean microfiber cloth and polish to remove swirls:
https://www.amazon.com/Novus-PC-22-NOVUS...B002UD0GD6
They suggest that If that doesn’t work, the scratches will have to be buffed out on a buffing arbor by an experienced luthier.
I hope this information helps
Best,
Neil Cosman

Hey all,

Just got an email that Strings By Mail is offering a BOGO on DR Rare PB six string sets. I have heard so much about them I thought I’d pick up a few. Figured I’d pass it on!

It says no coupon necessary just comment BOGO during checkout.
