New E8OM - Concerns!
Posted by: NepTune - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (18)

Hi Folks,

i´m a new Eastman owner, so i joined the forum.

I purchased an E8OM (not TC) 2 days ago and I really love it.

My low E at the 12th fret is:  2.25 mm or 0.088 in.
My high e at the 12th fret is:  1,88 mm or 0,074 in.
My saddle height at low E is: 5 mm or 0.197 in.
The string height from top of guitar to bottom between the G and D strings right by the bridge, is 13,3 mm or .523 in.
The Neck relief is almost flat.
With a straight edge laying across the frets and nosed up against the saddle, the distance from the underside of the straight edge to the top of the bridge is 1.33 mm or 0.052 in.

Also, almost all frets got sharp ends (both sides)

The action is a little bit to low for my taste...
My concern is the saddle hight that could damage the bridge...
Is this a overset Neck?

BTW the guitar sounds and plays great.

(excuse my poor english)

I would be happy about your opinion.

  For Sale: E10SS/v (2018)
Posted by: Pura Vida - Forum: For Sale / Trade and Online Deals - Replies (9)

After much hesitation (nearly four years!), I've decided to sell my 2018 E10SS/v.  This is an amazing guitar, but I prefer a wider nut width.  I'm the original owner, and it is from a brief period, where they moved to the Ebony board, but still had the Batwing pickguard (which I absolutely prefer to the current Firestripe guard).

Mint / like new condition.  The only time it's been out of my music room was when I took it to my luthier for a setup.  No cleaning products; only a soft, dry cloth to wipe it down.  My home is climate controlled and non-smoking.

So, the pick gaurd on my new 308 had a small defect...not sure how I didn't notice it right off but I didn't....I emailed Eastman and there sending me a new pick guard...so in the mean time I decided to pull the original off .... With the guitar so new I got lucky and no tan line....once the new gaurd arrives I'll keep it in the case but doubt I'll put it on...? To Eastman I sent them a photo of the defect and the promptly responded saying they will send me another....but I'll be leaving it off I like the look of a naked guitar.....it'll stay in the case in the event I resell and the next owner wants it.....but I doubt I resell this one...?

SB59/v from 2017 sold as new?
Posted by: MattLovesEastman - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (4)

Hi everyone,

Just joined the forum and read through a few threads, and I am very happy I found this place! I discovered Eastman back in 2018 and bought an SB59, and it is one of the greatest guitars I have ever played.

Ever since then I was curious about the SB59/v and recently found one sold as Brand New on Reverb, and when I made an offer it was immediately accepted for a very decent price. The seller was a legit shop with good reviews, and the guitar arrived in its case with certificate. So far, so good.

One thing surprised me, though: When I checked the serial number yesterday, it indicates the guitar is from 2017! This would mean that either the dealer received it from Eastman only recently (kind of unlikely) or had it sitting in their shop for c. five years? Given that dealers usually try to ship their inventory rather quickly, and given that this is not a very odd or extremely expensive model, this option also sounds a bit odd.

Frets look new to me, but given that the guitar is aged it is hard to tell whether this is, in fact, a new instrument. Of course I can reach out to the dealer and ask, but that would immediately be suggesting that they would have knowingly sold a used guitar as new.

So I wanted to ask you guys: Have you ever bought a new guitar which had been in the shop for quite a long time, and how would you go about this? I really think it is a great guitar, and part of me just wants to ignore it and enjoy, but there is this other side of me who would love to know whether the dealer acted in good faith.

  New Eastman PCH1-D
Posted by: cjhorne - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (6)

I am going to post a few comments on the Eastman PCH1-D.  I ordered the guitar through Alto Music on 09/28/2021 and finally received on 08/25/2022...almost 11 months to the day.  I think the lead time was actually longer than 11 months though, because Alto had placed an order for PCH1-Ds (for stock) with Eastman before I ordered mine.  Interestingly, the street price has increased from $279 to $349 during this period, and I was not asked to pay the higher price.  I also received 15% in "Alto Bucks," store credit.

My other 2 Eastman guitars (solid wood) that I purchased previously had a red sticker on the shipping carton, stating the package should acclimate for 24 hours prior to opening.  The PCH1-D did not have such a notice.  I wonder that is because of the laminate construction, or possibly due to the fact that it was shipped and received in the summer season.

I bought this guitar for traveling by car, playing around with my grand kids (who can be a bit rough on an instrument), campfires, etc.  The guitar arrived in excellent condition.  The action was medium...0.100" on the low E and 0.070" on the high e (at the 12th fret), with 0.006" of relief, a good general setup. The appearance is really nice; the ovangkol fretboard and bridge give a different look than the ebony on my other Eastmans, and I kind of like it.

The Eastman website states the strings are D'Addario .012-.053 #EXP16 (coated). Looking at them along side the EJ16 strings (uncoated) on my other guitars, they look identical.  Based on this, I question whether the strings on the PCH1-D are actually EXP16.

There have been statements made on here that the workmanship on the PCH series is inferior to the rest of the Eastman line.  With that in mind, I looked the guitar over carefully.  Everything looked perfect to my eye, except for one thing:  The neck is maple and the fretboard is ovangkol.  Where the two meet, they apparently mask the ovangkol when staining the maple neck.  Some stain has seeped through to the side edge of the ovangkol fretboard, interrupting what should be a straight line.  I will try to attach some pictures later.  Not a big deal on such an inexpensive guitar, but it does support the statement that the workmanship may be of a lower standard.

The nut and saddle appear to be bone, as claimed, and the bridge pins are plastic.

I did order some bone bridge pins.  This guitar does not come with a pickup.  I upgraded my other Eastmans to the LR Baggs Anthem pickups.  I am planning to install the LR Baggs Element pickup (removed from the AC422CE) in the PCH1-D; this will involved drilling some holes which I didn't have to do when upgrading my other guitars (ugh!).  At that time I will lower the action.

So how does it sound?  Well, if you just play it by itself, it sounds ok.  But if you play it back to back with a solid wood guitar, you immediately recognize a huge difference.  Comparatively, the sound is thin without much low end.  I found myself changing my playing style a bit to hit the lower strings a little more and a little harder.

For my purposes, the PCH1-D is perfect.  If however, I were a beginner looking for an upgrade from my first guitar, I would save up for an all wood Eastman guitar.

CJ

Edit: The SN is M2205188.  The guitar was possibly manufactured in July.  So, one might assume guitars are serialized consecutively and estimate that Eastman is on track to make over 10,000 acoustic guitars this year.

The intonation is spot on.  I switched the bridge pins to bone, which seems to have helped the tone a bit.  It is hard to say without a recording for an A-B comparison.

I attached pics showing the where the stain bled through the masking (or maybe it is brushed on?") onto the side edges of the Ovangkol fretboard.

  E40D-TC for sale - Sold
Posted by: brandonknapp - Forum: For Sale / Trade and Online Deals - Replies (1)

A little while ago I purchased a used E40D-TC to try. It was new as of January 2022.  I own a couple of other Eastman Dreadnoughts (E10D and E20D both amazing guitars).  Both work good for me. The E40D-TC guitar is fantastic. The tone is deep and clean with nice highs. It’s super fun to play and looks great and in perfect condition.   My issue (sad to say) is it’s too much guitar for my style and voice as a singer songwriter.  I have it listed on reverb for $1999.  It will be a life time guitar for someone. Deals off reverb of course saves everyone money.

  NGD - E40-oo
Posted by: Slaminsam - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (9)

Well, the E40-oo arrived today and I will have to say this is quite a guitar. I just been able to spend a little time with it and I will have to say its a pleasure to play, the tone is smooth and warm. It encourages me to learn and play more fingerstyle. I just have to say even though I love Collings Martin, etc., this Eastman is a terrific guitar. It's so fun to play[Image: smile.gif]

NGD- E6SS-TC 3 month update on page 3
Posted by: TomC - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (28)

I had to move a company vehicle from Houston to Chicago last weekend. Fortunately Springfield, MO and The Acoustic Shoppe was only a short 2 hour or so detour. I noticed on their website they had (3) of the new E6SS-TCs in stock and all over 1.70" at the nut. I just had to stop. I worked with Trent and, I feel bad about this one because I can' remember his name, the other salesman. Both were extremely helpful and patient not to mention very good players. Mr Chapman agreed to let me buy one even though he needed them for videos the next week. I played the two with the widest nuts and surprisingly picked the one with the narrower of the two. It is just under 1.73". The neck is a little beefier than other SS models I have played. To me that is a good thing. TAS installed a  K&K and shipped it to MN. I picked it up at UPS as soon as I got back today.

Second impression comments:
1) very loud and full /rich tone. It also seems to be responsive to fingers although that is not something I do with any regularity.
2_ Comfortable to hold and play. I think it is the shorter scale, but I seem to prefer the slope dread over a D-14 Martin style.
3) Great build quality. No runs, no drips, no errors that I can find. Although the nut and neck are not made to the spec. Spec is 1 11/16" nut and other slope models I have played tend to have a thinner neck. The handmade nature of Eastmans strikes again.
4) A little heavy which I find interesting since it is so responsive.
5) I absolutely love the deep, full, encompassing tone.
6) Set-up was good. The nut slots are were they should be. The relief was a little high, but a quick turn of the truss rod took care of that. Very tall saddle.
7) Newer pickguard is better than before, but I see a Holter pickguard in my future. Taylor sent me a couple of sample ideas that I have included below.

I have been searching for a mahogany slope dread for quite some time. I have owned/tried several and something was always just a little off. I think my search may be over.
