  Be your own player
Posted by: Blues Picker - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (3)

Ya know .... Something has just occured to me...as guitar players we all say I wish I could play like him....I wish I was that good ...etc...I play pretty much nothing but acoustic blues...why? I love the freedom of it...love the way it sounds played well....I listen to guys like terry robb , Justin Johnson , Kelly joe Phelps ..etc....but you know I've gotten to a point in my own playing ...that I can sit and just and play ...mine own stuff of my own creation... I don't need to listen to something 100 times then stare at tab to be able to play .... I know my scales , chord shapes, how chords are constructed....chords substitutions ...yada...yada....I sat tonight and listened to some of the stuff I've created and recorded ... And said ..no it's not terry robb , Justin Johnson ....etc....it's me !!!! It's my style ....it's my playing ....and really I'm beginning to believe what people that have heard me play have told me..... thats good stuff, wow never figured you could play like that...I'm a very hard guy to impress and I'm even more critical of myself......
But I've learned this.....as guitar players we are all influenced by other players and learn things from other players.....
But at the end of the day .....we all have our own style .... So if your creating your own stuff ...learn to embrace it....your playing your guitar with your own understanding which will keep evolving as long as your never satisfied.....

Never satisfied, and embracing your own style kinda conflict doesn't it .....no really it doesn't....some will understand and some won't ..... Stay unsatisfied, keep learning , but embrace your style ....go with it and it will take your playing farther then what you believe ....

I'm not different then you....but I've realized that through my frustrations.....I grow ....I learn .... My playing evolves....

I played for 2 hours tonight .... With these thoughts in my head ..... It still amazes me the licks and things I can can up with just ponding out some acoustic blues ..... My understanding....my style.....I'm I satisfied no....but I'm confident that my stuff is pretty good .....so I can relax and play it with feeling....and it just gets better....

I got my start with the kenny sultan acoustic blues books.....but then I got under the hood and figured out how he came up with what he was playing.....

I took lesson for years as a kid .... Never learned much....and could only really play what was printed out on paper....but I've learned more on my own once I got my direction.....finger style acoustic blues is my vehicle.....where I go from here ....remains to be seen....

I'm sure this will click with someone out there.....it's fine to listen to a song 100 times and get it in your head....then stare at tab and play it ......but until you get under the hood and figure out how that piece was created you'll never be free to play your guitar and create your own stuff....

Someone out to here will understand what I'm saying ....as they've came to the same realization... Others just keep going , keep playing , keep learning at some point this will all make sense.....

Be it acoustic blues , classical , jazz, whatever get under the hood ..... Play with your own understanding ..... You will be amazed at what happens!

  Mint E10SS/V for sale
Posted by: GillyGee - Forum: For Sale / Trade and Online Deals - No Replies

Beautiful with unusual centre binding down back. Less than a year old. Very slight ‘worn’ effect not as much as many I’ve seen online. Strummed at home half a dozen times max. Mint condition not a mark on it as it’s stayed in its case since I bought it and have been away with work most of the year.
I have a Gibson L-00 and a Martin 00015M. The latter 2 suit me better size wise, but this E10 knocks spots off the J45 I used to have.

£1500

  Touchstone guitar in store
Posted by: REHII - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (4)

Here in Memphis the Eastman dealer has at long last got a Bourgeois/Eastman/Touchstone guitar in the store. It is a rosewood Sitka OM.
The fit and finish is top quality.
The materials used are world class.
The Sitka top is really stunning.
I didn’t have long to play it but it’s time is certainly above average.
I think the price was just under 3k.
The lowest Dana guitar is def over 5k new.
They only have one at Martin Guitar here in Memphis. I’m sure it won’t last long!

While I wait for my new used E8OM to arrive...
Posted by: devdem - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (8)

I noticed after the purchase that there is something installed in the sound hole about where a low profile pickup control would be.  If I squint my eyes, it looks like it is labelled as "Eastman".  Any guesses?  There was no mention of anything on the ad.  I don't have a picture of an end pin.  Perhaps a mounted humidity apparatus?

  E1OM or E20OMC
Posted by: Jack - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (21)

Hi, I am new here and own a Martin D16 (Rosewood).  I wanted to get a OM Size guitar after 3 years of playing Dreadnaught. Eventually I hope to get a D18 (Mahogany).

I have done my research and nailed down to E1OM (Sapele or Mahogany) and E20OMC (Rosewood). Price different is not an issue here, I do not need electronic either.

I already own Rosewood guitar but this E20OMC with Adirondack Solid Top may worth to own/keep. I am not sure about Adirondack yet, never own one.

Appreciate if some experts here and give me some advice which guitar should I go for?

Thank you.

  Hello from San Jose, CA

Hi gang, I married into the Eastman family last night with a used E8om purchase - I'll post on that separately.

Geographic Location?
Originally Houston TX but moved to California back in 2000

How did you discover Eastman?
I forget originally, but several contact points were through via ownership of a Silver Creek T160 and reading up on the various other import guitars coming in over the years.  I was bumped over the top by Mickey over at another forum who posted some info on his E10om and loves it (and hangs with Nashville folks who know a thing or two).

Favorites related to Eastman - favorite models & wood combos, and which model is next on your purchase list?
Lusting after one of the sunburst acoustics like the E10om or the AC630.

Music interests & anything else?
Started learning classical a long, long time ago, floated in and out of rock playing, played in various bands and grew up hearing a wide variety of music in the house - something I'm in forever debt to my father for.  I finger pick when I'm playing at home.  I'm not focused on playing so much at the moment, but as I slowly approach retirement age, I look forward to spending less time working and more time deriving joy from music and playing with others.

WTB - Eastman E10 00SS/V Black Beauty TFOA 20th Anniversary
Posted by: MachoGrande - Forum: For Sale / Trade and Online Deals - No Replies

I've been wanting a black E10OOSS for years. Somehow this TFOA Anniversary model slipped past me. Only 10 made, so the odds aren't great, but hit me up if you have one and it didn't live up to your expectations.

If I see the letter D one more time *(^)*&%^&^$^&%#@$ everywhere I look and hear it's DDDDDDDDD...maybe it's because I'd never wanna be in a playing situation on acoustic where I had to compete in volume to be heard. I played 1 once and it was like trying to hug a bear...ok got my D rant out, kinda... give me an 0, 00, 0M and dang acoustic prices are outrageous now and forget about affording a nice used one unless you're loaded, real loaded

I have a friend that lives way out in the country. A lady from his little church gave him her husbands old old ES125 that he had bought new. This was after her husband of 70+ passed away about 30 years ago and my friend seldom if ever even plays it. I've begged him to sell it to me and he won't. I played it unplugged and I don't even have words to describe just how great it played and sounded acoustically unplugged...dang I need to stay off the net to lower my blood pressure
