Guitaristas LP's: Choosing from Gibson, Maybach, Tokai, Heritage, & Eastman
Posted by: PrimordialOne - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (1)

I've been watching Colin's YouTube channel for over a year now. He's a fun guy. Thought I'd share this one.
He just released this video where he decides which Les Paul styled guitars he will keep from Gibson, Maybach, Tokai, Heritage, & Eastman. Which will stay with him?

E6D-TC Alpine Exc Cond with Upgrades
Posted by: TomC - Forum: For Sale / Trade and Online Deals - Replies (9)

So I bought this new. Did a few tasteful upgrades listed below. Ended up selling it. (I am not really a Martinesque dread fan, more Gibsonish) Then I bought it back for some impatient reason, realizing once again I am not a Martinesque dread fan. So off it goes back on the market. Let me know if you have any questions.

Eastman dreadnaught acoustic guitar with limited edition torrefied Alpine Spruce top and Mahogany back, sides and neck. Fretboard and bridge are ebony. All solid wood constructions. The Alpine Spruce top is a definite upgrade that was only used for one year due to the lack of availability of Sitka spruce during Covid. The nut and saddle are bone with the saddle being an upgraded Bob Colosi saddle. Additional upgrades include Gotoh tuners with pearloid buttons, Holter custom pickguard and a Schatten HFN passive pick up. A strap button has been added at the heel. Includes the original hard shell case. The guitar is comparable to a Martin D18.

Asking Traded OBO  includes shipping CONUS, cash, Venmo or PayPal.  Transaction fees are extra.

  185MM All Maple Value?
Posted by: Jon S - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - No Replies

Hi,
In 2011 I bought a 185 MM that has curly maple on front, back and sides (hence the MM, not MX).

I talked to Lou today at Guitars and Jazz-who sold it to me 14 years ago-and he said that the MM models are a rare breed. For this reason Im wondering if it's more valuable than the 185MX's that I see on Reverb.

I haven't been able to find any mention of any 185MMs anywhere on the net and there aren't any for sale. I contacted Eastman but they haven't gotten back to me on how many they've made.

It's in perfect mint condition; I played it less than 50 times, always in my studio.

I'm attaching pics. Please let me know what you think and thank you very much.

SB 59/v vs. Heritage H150 Custom: A Story not a Review
Posted by: PrimordialOne - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - Replies (1)

Hi, I'm new here and relatively new to playing guitar. I've introduced myself on the Intro board but thought I'd share my first Eastman story here.

Two to three years ago, I was looking for my first high-end LP. After some patient hunting, I came across a seller offering both a SB 59/v and a Heritage H150 Custom (both manufactures were on my radar). After some back and forth emails, I took a 2 hour drive to meet up and check them out. He was a nice guy with legit gear and a love for the instrument. After discussing and playing them, we came to a fair agreement and I went home with both guitars. I was like a kid on Christmas morning! I could hardly wait to get back home and play them and to compare/contrast.

Let me say that they are both stellar guitars. I had played several Gibsons and other LPs at various GC's etc.. and was more often than not disappointed. I get the whole Gibson brand mojo thing but they never really hit the sweet spot. Pups sounded great but frets/neck weren't perfect for me. However, the Eastman and Heritage both outperformed any of the Gibson's I had played. Yes, I was still on the honeymoon but I knew these guitars were special. They felt great in my hands, were easy to play, and sounded fantastic, and oh the smell of that nitrocellulose when you open the case and play the Heritage is intoxicating.

Each guitar was unique. LPs yes, but certainly different from each other (as most guitars are). I was really happy with both. There was only one problem: I knew I was only going to keep one long term. When I committed to buy both, I said to myself that I would play them for awhile and eventually keep the one I liked best. Each one had more pros than cons when comparing/contrasting so it was a hard choice. They are both dream guitars in my opinion. I was a hard-working lucky man.

Well, I kept them for about a year or so when I decided it was time to make a decision. Gear had magically started accumulating on my journey to find out what I like and what I don't and it was time to let some stuff go.
I kept the Eastman. It sounded great, was lighter, I liked the neck-feel more, and at half the cost of the Heritage I just couldn't let it go. I still miss the Heritage and may one day buy another, but the Eastman does everything I want from an LP. I love it. Friends and family members who play it like it too. It's fun to turn them on to Eastman guitars. Surprise surprise!

I love the SB59/v so much I've since added a T484 which fills my semi-hollow slot nicely. It's another amazing guitar. And this year I acquired a AC722CE. Just a beautiful guitar (love the sound port!). I'm back on the hunt for a E20OM or E40OM (MR TC anyone?) but am patient and can wait for the right one to come along. I definitely have plenty of Eastman's to enjoy until then. I've become a real Eastman Fanboy.
Thanks for reading. It's nice to be here.

Exclamation Contemplating Eastman E10D TC
Posted by: Contemplating Eastman - Forum: Eastman Acoustic Guitars - Replies (6)

Hey all, new member here!

I'm wondering if you guys can help me out. Currently, I own a Recording King RD318 and it is a fantastic guitar! However, from all the audio reviews and clips I have found online, the Eastman E10D-TC seems to have more "gas in the tank" so to speak. The RD318 is my first Bluegrass focused guitar as I play a lot of country/bluegrass and I'm just wondering if the Eastman E10D-TC would be a wise choice as a sort of upgrade so to speak.

Any help is appreciated!

The picture is my Recording King RD318

  African Mahogany: Utile
Posted by: AlanSam - Forum: General Chatter - Replies (5)

The African wood Utile (aka Sippo) is arguably the species that most closely resembles 'true' South American mahogany. Has anyone ever come across any reference to an actual acoustic guitar made from this tone wood? I haven't despite a good search on the net - so why don't we see them? Just wondering.

Can I post pics of my 185 for input?
Posted by: Jon S - Forum: Eastman Electric and Archtop Guitars - No Replies

Hi,
I have a 185MM, all figured maple sides. I haven't seen many MM's- all I see are MX's. I'm considering selling it and would like some input.
Please let me know if it's appropriate to create a post about it.
Thank you,
Jon
